Weapons & Vehicles
Many different things were used in the war such as: rifles, machine guns, poison gas, zeppelin also known as a blimp, tanks, planes, torpedoes, grenades, flamethrowers, pistols, bayonets and much more.
WEAPONS!
Rifle
The bolt-action rifle was mainly used by the british in the trenches. 15 round could be shot in a minute and a range of 1.400 meters.
Machine gun
In WWI is took 4 to 6 men to work a machine gun. They had to be on a flat surface and had the power of 100 guns!
Gernades
Grenades were used to fight your enemies from a distance. The grenades used in the war were different from the hand grenades now back in the war they were shot out of a gun called a Rifle Grenades
Flame -thrower
The flamethrower was used by Germans to bring terror to the French and British soldiers. Basically the flamethrower would launch burning fuel.
Pistols
The pistol was traditionally issued to officers all armies,military police, airmen, and tank operators. Pistols were used because they were more suitable for the cramped conditions. There were 3 main types: Revolvers, Clip-loaded automatic and Blow-backs
Bayonets
Bayonets were more physiological weapons; they would scare the other soldiers. Soldiers would use them to toast bread, open cans and scrape dirt off uniforms
Vehicles
Tank
Tanks were used for the first time in the war and were made to cope with the Western Front(The western most position were armies faced each other) conditions. The first tank was named 'Little Willie'. It had a crew of 3 and cold only go 3 mph and could not go over trenches.
Planes
At first planes were used for spying and to deliver bombs but later became fighter aircraft's armed with bombs machine guns and sometimes cannons. When two planes fought it was known as a 'dogfights'
Torpedoes
Torpedoes were used by submarines. The Germans used torpedoes to blow up ships bringing supplies to Britain from America
Poison Gas
The Germans were the first to use Chlorine gas in the battle of Ypres in 1915. The chlorine gas would cause a burning sensation in the throat and chest pains. The death would be very painful you would suffocate and it all depended on the weather because if the wind blew the wrong way you could kill your own troops.
Mustard gas was the most deadly weapon used. It would be thrown into trenches in shells and would take 12 hours to take effect. Mustard gas effects include: blistering skin, vomiting, sore eyes, internal and external and death could take up to 5 weeks.
