A Peek at Our Week
Reading: Our story this week is "The Garden of Abdul Gasazi", which can be found in your child's reading book. The comprehension skill is "story structure". The students will take an open book comprehension test over this story on Friday. Please go over their reading test long response questions. Take a look to make sure their answers make sense, they restate the question, and give multiple details FROM THE STORY. This is an important skill that needs to be mastered. We will also be working on our cold reads. We are now doing 2 stories at a time to build up their stamina for FCAT. They will be expected to read 4 to 5 stories at a time for the FCAT test.
Spelling words this week! The words this week are homophones and can be found in your child's agenda. The students will be expected to know the correct spelling of the word within the meaning of the sentence. For example, if I say, "Their clothes were ripped to pieces!" They will have to know that "their" is spelled T.H.E.I.R. Please practice these at home. This can be very tricky! Test will be Friday, and students will have to write the entire sentence correctly, using correct capitalization and punctuation.
Math: We will wrap up Topic 14 this week! Our test will be Wednesday. We have reviewed today and will continue to review tomorrow. You will find a review on Edmodo also. If they know everything on that review, then they should do fine on the test. Please remember that knowing their multiplication facts will make fractions so much easier to compare! Multiplication facts need to be memorized!! Please continue to practice them nightly.
Social Studies: We have begun Chapter 5 in our Social Studies books, Citizenship. We have decided as a grade level to practice what we preach. We have become "participatory citizens". You will find a letter in your child's red homework folder explaining our "getting involved" project. Thank you for allowing our students to become active volunteers in our community :)
