The Buzz in Room 218!

Mrs. Crickenberger's Class

Language Arts

In writing we have been working on expository prompts. This past week students wrote papers about their favorite season. We have been focusing on the necessary parts of expository essays such as hook, introduction, supporting paragraphs, and conclusions. This week we will be starting a new prompt: What is your favorite activity? I am looking forward to seeing what your children come up with. Be sure to ask them what they have been learning and writing about in Language Arts!

In reading students are enjoying their realistic fiction novels. They are having excellent discussions during reading groups and making great inferences! After this unit of reading students will begin our biography unit. They will have the opportunity to do an in school biography reading research project on a person of their choice.

Social Studies & Science

This past week we have been working on our new Social Studies unit, The New Nation. Students have enjoyed learning about what life was like after The Revolutionary War. We have been studying about George Washington, James Madison, and important documents of Virginia. Our field trip to Montpelier was an excellent learning experience that helped to enrich the students' understanding of James Madison as well as the difference between primary and secondary sources. A special thank you to our chaperones who helped to make this day successful! The students will take their New Nation quiz on Friday, November 21st. After Thanksgiving break students will begin their next Science rotation with Mrs. James on Monday, December 1st.
