Lewis & Clark Elementary School Earned "Top Performer" Recognition on State's Most Recent Report Card

In the Idaho State Department of Education's recently released school report cards, Lewis and Clark Elementary earned a recognition of "Top Performer", meaning the school ranked in the top 10th percentile or above on key performance indicators.

Dr. Matthew McDaniel, Principal of Lewis and Clark Elementary shared that "The teachers and academic support staff of Lewis and Clark Elementary School work tirelessly to encourage and develop literate students regardless of their prior knowledge or experience. Each teacher values each learner as an individual and hones in on his or her strengths to ensure academic gains are prioritized."

Congratulations to our students and staff at Lewis and Clark for being named a "Top Performer" in the state of Idaho!

Two Caldwell High School Alumni featured in award-winning book series

Caldwell Cougar Alumni ‘20 Mariela Esquivel-Rodriguez and Zenaida De La Cruz are featured in an award-winning book series called "Today's Inspired Latina." They are the first Idahoans to be featured in the series.

Zenaida de la Cruz shared: "I talk a lot about my journey choosing my college. I go to school at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. So, it's quite a trip across the country. I talk about being a first generation college student and how big of a choice that was for me, and being able to be representation, not only for my younger cousins, but also for the community in Caldwell."

"I talk a lot about family and that first generation story...What does that mean to move away from home and what did that first year look like? Also, the first generation barriers that we're facing and having immigrant parents," says Mariela Esquivel-Rodriguez.

According to the book series' website, the series is one of "inspiration and hope, a poignant collection of personal stories that will activate your passion.

Caldwell Youth Forum

This week the Caldwell Youth Forum invited students from Caldwell and Canyon Springs High School to participate in a unique learning experience at Bogus Basin. During the trip, students had the opportunity to learn about winter ecology and snow science while snowshoeing across the Bogus Basin Ski Area.

In addition, students from Caldwell and other area high schools came together to celebrate an exchange of ideas, ideals, and forward thinking to further advance established initiatives about campus culture.

"I've learned we should pay attention to our surroundings more, including the people around us, and not just ourselves. Everyone is going through something and we need to make change in our schools and community and it starts with us," said Shyanne Garza, Sophomore at Caldwell High School.

Students who were selected to attend this year’s Forum are leaders in their schools and have been challenged with the responsibility to share what they learned from the Forum with their peers.

As a component of the Caldwell Youth Master Plan, the Caldwell Youth Forum seeks to provide resources for our students to help them create a learning environment in which they have elements of ownership and responsibility. Together, as a community of learning, we can reach the outcomes our students deserve.

School Start Time Survey

The Caldwell School District Board of Trustees is evaluating potential options for implementing later morning start times for middle and high school students and earlier morning start times for elementary students. Research has shown that a change would benefit students whose sleep cycles shift around the time they enter middle school (a link to research). However, changing schedules could also impact families’ current childcare arrangements and students’ extracurricular activity schedules. There are many factors to consider, and getting stakeholder feedback is a critical factor in determining the best school start times for our District.

Your input is an important part of the School Board’s decision making process -- we want to hear from you. Please click HERE to take the School Start Time survey.

Thank you to Caldwell Lions Club

We would like to say thank you to the Caldwell Lions Club for donating $200 to two Syringa Middle School Teachers.

Every month, teachers in the Caldwell School District can apply for the Caldwell's Lions teacher grant. This money is meant to help with expenses for field trips and other school supplies.

Thank you to the Caldwell Lions Club for supporting the students in the Caldwell School District.

Legacy Program

The College of Idaho is hosting their first of two Legacy Program games this month. The Legacy Program encourages our elementary students to serve their families and volunteer in our community.

Students from Van Buren, Washington, and Wilson Elementary Schools will be recognized for their volunteerism by the College of Idaho Men's Basketball team at the Yotes' home game on Friday, January 27, 2023. Students from Lewis & Clark, Lincoln, and Sacajawea Elementary Schools will be recognized on Friday, February 10, 2023.

The Yotes will be visiting each elementary school again this month to cheer on the students and invite them to join in their Legacy Program Game. We are so grateful for this wonderful partnership with The College of Idaho.
