Working Together as ONE to Give 100%
It is a great time of the year right now. We have some of the STAAR exams behind us and now a five week sprint to the next round of STAAR exams. This time of year is critical to the success of your student so we all need to be giving 100%!
As teachers, you are balancing the tasks of maintaining your classroom culture, implementing student interventions, making essential parent communication, and above all executing your pacing calendars leading up to STAAR! To top it all off, there are also thoughts about next year and what prospects it brings that can distract you from your daily work.
In the coming weeks I task you to stay focused on the most important work you have which is the students in front of you every day. This is the time of year where you should be thinking about very key things. Such as:
- Building a sense of urgency with your students
- Engaging lesson activities – They have seen you all year, so its time to bring out your best!
- Accountability, Consistency, and Believing!!!
Make every minute count with your students. Help them understand the urgency to finish strong as you refer to the measurable goals you have in place. When it comes to lesson plans, think outside the box. Think differently! Your students have seen your teaching for almost one year so they know your “default” by now. Meaning they know when you are not best prepared. Keep them on their toes by presenting things in a new way and with exciting new strategies. This is the time of year to bring out your best and not stick with the norm. Lastly, STAY CONSISTENT! Hold students ACCOUNTABLE to your expectations. Most importantly, BELIEVE they can reach your expectations. Expresses an explicit belief that all your students can meet high standards and promote a no excuses culture in your classroom each day.
Our May STAAR exams will be here before you know it. Let’s keep working together as ONE to give 100%
