Slave Abolition

Erika and Nicole

The Beginning

Slavery had been prominent in the South since the start of the country. Slaves were abolished in the North in 1804, but were still legal in the South. However, people in the North wanted to completely abolish it. Abolition was a movement to end slavery everywhere in the U.S. Some people, the American Anti-Slavery Society, founded by William Lloyd Garrison who also published The Liberator, wanted immediate emancipation, which means they wanted all enslaved African Americans freed from slavery.
