Newsletter Term 2, Week 1

Otautau School 7th May 2021

Welcome Back

Welcome back everyone. What a wonderful start we have made this week. Students are happy, classrooms are buzzing and teachers are excited about sharing with the students what new learning will be happening this term.

As you will be able to tell this is the first week of our new electronic newsletter. Over the coming weeks we will continually add more in the form of videos, pictures and links to forms etc.

We are in the process of updating our new school website.

The website links with our school app so all notifications that get pushed out through our school app transfer to the website. It is going to be fantastic to have everything all in the one place. We will be continuing to build the website throughout Term 2.

Attendance Patterns

It has been pleasing to report that our attendance patterns are slowly improving throughout the school. We have 83% of the school identified as having Tier 1 attendance - 90% or more. This is still below the national expectation of children having 90% or more attendance. Our aim by the end of the year is for our school to have 90% attendance identified as Tier 1 by Term 4.

Positive Education

It has been awesome to see students coming into my office this week wanting to tell me what they have achieved their last 'Tau Sticker' for. What's so affirming to see is that the students are able to articulate the reason why they received their sticker and relate it to one or more of our Tau Competencies.

Below is a run down of our school-wide expectations for Positive Education.

This week we welcomed Noah Joyce to the Treehouse and

Eva and Ella Ghising to Room 5.

Welcome and we hope you enjoy your time at Otautau School.

You should have received your child's photo proofs. Could orders please be returned to the school office by Friday 21st May.

Every Friday morning during the winter term, these will be on sale for $2 from the GR8 Coffee Truck. If your child likes the large size these will be the normal price.

Thanks Gwen for this treat, it is much appreciated by the children and the adults!!

This is available to all students in Room 1 Monday to Thursday. Please note that it will not run on Fridays this Term. A BIG thank you to Otautau Four Square for donating the milo for this. We have certinally gone through many tins - Thanks Margaret.

This term Assemlies will be held every 2nd Friday at 10.30 in Room 2.

Everyone is more than welcome to come along.

Please contact the school if your child is going to be away. Easiest way is through the School App or you can phone the school office 225 8320.

If there is no reason given for a child's absence they will be marked as truant!!

Bus Code of Conduct

Today, all families of children who use our Scot's Gap, Aparima and Bayswater bus routes will receive a 'Code of Conduct' form as part of our contract requirements with the Ministry of Education. Please take time to read and sign the contract, then return it back to school.

The Code of Conduct outlines the expectations when using this bus service along with what happens if the Code of Conduct is broken.

We have sent one contract home per family, so if you have more than one child using this bus service then just add their name to the line where it says 'student'.

Later on in the term the Year 7/8 students will be going through this process when going to Winton Technology (the current bus kids won't need to sign the contract again).

Last term Room 3 children worked hard to design and make their own hoe (paddle). Pop into room 3 to view them. Here are some of the finished products.

The children have had fun in Room 4 making origami frogs. Everyone was being a Thinker Tau to problem solve how to make the frogs and persevere with the tricky parts.

Thank you to the Deans Family for donating our pet frog. We have been exploring the features and life cycle of frogs.

Welcome back to Term 2 from Room 6. We have been busy writing about our holiday, creating in Maker Space and being Friendly Tau catching up with each other and having fun.
