Math

In math classes we are reviewing the concepts of rounding, addition, and subtraction. See the images below for some possible addition and subtraction strategies. We will also be working with story problems involving measurement and time. Toward the end of unit 6, we will be learning about different types of graphs that represent data.

Math App of the Month: Arloon Mental Math App (Apple and Android)

An entertaining app to practice and apply addition and subtraction strategies. Reviewing these foundational skills is always important!

Unit 6 Math Newsletter

Access the documents below to review classroom concepts. Unit 6 revisits addition and subtraction strategies. It also introduces time, measurement, and graphing.

Social Studies

In Social Studies we will dive deeper into our current economics unit. Students are discovering how producers and consumers are related. They are also working on economics decision making, always keeping in mind the opportunity cost when they make a choice.

Reading

Reading classes will be spending the next few weeks finishing up with informational texts. We are still working on comparing and contrasting these non fiction texts. We are learning to look critically at the main ideas and determine how they are similar and how they are different. Students are always encouraged to go back to the text to find proof for their responses.

Writing

This month in writing we will finish our unit on informational texts. Students will have a chance to apply all of the tools of an informational writer that they have learned over the course of this unit. We cannot wait to read their final ocean animal texts!

Cold Weather Reminder!

Just a reminder that as the weather gets colder, students will need to have a jacket to participate in recess. If they do not have a coat, they will not be able to go outside on cold days. We want to keep everyone healthy! If students are missing jackets, they are encouraged to check the lost and found!

Weinburg Field Trip Permission Forms

Our field trip to the Weinburg will be coming up in March. Permission slips will be coming home soon with more information! If you are interested in being a chaperone you can complete that section of the permission slip!
