Thank you and congratulations to the Agri-Science Advisory Board's retiring members: Kevin Keith, National FFA Organization; Dr. Levon Esters, Purdue University; Steve Cox, former BGHS Principal; Kevin Banks, BGHS Science Department Chair; and Dr. Rebecca Appolon, Beech Grove VCA Animal Hospital. Hornet Enrichment Academy Students Visit State House

Hornet Enrichment Academy students took a field trip to the Statehouse on January 25th. The group was invited to participate in the Quality Education Celebration, and had the opportunity to hear Governor Pence's presentation regarding School Choice, tour the Statehouse, meet State Senator, Pat Miller, who represents the Beech Grove area, and observe Senate proceedings from the gallery. In addition, Dr. Kaiser spoke on a panel about school choice, in addition to testifying for SB1004, which addresses flexibility in hiring teachers from out of state and transitioning professionals in business, science and engineering to the teaching profession.

A Wonderful Kindness Project!

6th grade South Grove students Alyssa Reid and Zoe Wilson recently completed a charity project for parentless girls. The girls asked for donations of American Girl dolls from the students at South Grove. They also contacted the American Girl Doll Company. The company donated 50 books and students at South Grove donated five dolls! The girls are going to donate all of these items to the Children's Bureau to help cheer up several little girls in need!

Thank you, Alyssa and Zoe! (Pictured below)

A Unique Spanish Class Project

Spanish III students raised funds to symbolically adopt a sea turtle and African elephant through the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as part of a "save the endangered species" project first semester. Students researched various endangered species and created posters about these animals. Students in the Spanish III classes voted to name the sea turtle "Estrella" and the elephant, "Lola." This is the third year that Spanish III students have taken part in this project. "Estrella" and "Lola" are pictured below, as well as one of the posters created for the project.

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
