Superintendent Updates - December 7, 2020
Let's Talk About Readiness.
I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and well. Due to the surge in COVID cases, the Department of Public Health issued a Safer at Home Order which encouraged people to limit interactions with people outside their household. On December 3rd, Governor Newsom shared that further restrictions would be ordered if our hospitals were in danger of being overwhelmed. Today, our Intensive Care Unit capacity in Los Angeles County has dropped below 15%, and stay-at-home orders were enacted this morning. Please read our “Safe, Clean, Ready!” plan to understand how our schools have prepared to ensure student and staff safety.
Our Governor and County both continue to prioritize education, and nothing has changed in terms of providing in-person instruction. At the moment, our State Preschool program at Kit Carson School is operating, and we are planning for students in our Special Day Class Programs in the near future. I am preparing applications for a TK-2nd grade waiver that would, if granted, allow us to bring back our youngest students. Each step of the way, we will ensure that students and staff will be safe and remain healthy.
In my two previous updates, I shared the essential information about the first and second layers of our "Safe. Clean. Ready!" (SCR) plan which focused on cleanliness and safety. This week, the focus is on readiness. So, what steps are we taking to ensure we are ready?
Communication. We will continue to provide updates regarding school reopening and adjustments to our instructional models on all of our platforms. Please be sure your school has your latest contact information.

Thank you for your patience as we work to protect everyone and for your continuous support!
