Gunn Back To School Information

August 13th, 2020

Dear Gunn Students and Families,

In the spirit of "Gunn Together," we enthusiastically welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. In so many ways we have all become stronger, more in tune with what is most important, and more determined than ever to establish and sustain our sense of community due to the challenges caused by the health crisis. This year we are prioritizing self-care, and community connection, while standing up for values elevating social justice. Partnerships between students, staff, and parents are more important than ever to ensure all students access their academic goals while participating in the activities they love to engage in at school.

This newsletter includes some important information for your successful start of the school year.

Freshman and New Student Orientation - Friday August 14 - 3:00 - 4:30 pm

Please join us for Freshman Orientation on Zoom using the link @ https://youtu.be/GLK4sp2rni8 . The first part of Freshman Orientation will be the Class of 2024 Kickoff Assembly at the YouTube live link from 3:00 - 3:30 pm. Freshmen will then transition to their SELF cohort in a separate Zoom room. In order to access both the YouTube live and the Zooms, students must be logged into RapidIdentity. Please use the list of SELF Zoom Rooms located @ https://tinyurl.com/SELFRooms to access those rooms. (Note: The list is still being updated, but rest assured your link will be there for your SELF cohort by Friday am! There is also a room specifically for new students). If you're not sure what SELF cohort you're in, please check the SELF slot on your schedule in Infinite Campus. If you don't have one on your schedule, please e-mail Courtney Carlomagno at ccarlomagno@pausd.org. If you have any other questions about the event, please reach out to Courtney Carlomagno or Lisa Hall at lhall@pausd.org.

Textbook and Materials Distribution

It has been a tremendous undertaking to unpack over 10,000 textbooks and then hand-select the textbooks for every one of our 2,000+ students. We are grateful to the parent volunteers and staff who have helped with this process.

The textbook distribution and materials pick up begins Friday of this week for Freshmen. Please read through the specifics for each grade-level. Textbook and Materials Distribution information. Information has also been sent via Infinite Campus and is posted on our website.

We have planned for driving, biking, and walking to school for pick up. It is always important for all parents and students to follow the safety guidelines of wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing on campus.

If you are not able to make your scheduled time for pick up, please email Pier Angeli La Place (plaplace@pausd.org) AND Leonel Argumedo (largumedo@pausd.org) to arrange an alternative time.

Please bring a copy of the student's schedule with you and be sure to have a sign with the student's first and last name and grade level affixed to the front passenger window or in hand for bikers and walkers.

Please email Leonel Argumedo AND Pier Angeli La Place with questions.

We appreciate your patience and understanding,

Gunn Admin

Gunn Back to School Plan

School begins on Monday, August 17. Prior to school beginning, all students need to log in to Infinite Campus and Schoology for schedules and access to classes.

At 10 am on Monday, all students must report to the Back to School Assembly. The link will be posted on Schoology. Classes begin after the assembly. Please see the schedule above.

You are able to access most student services (Infinite Campus, Schoology, Google Drive) through the ID portal.

All students: Username = student ID number.

If you are brand new to PAUSD and have never logged into the ID Portal, your password is as follows: the first 2 are first letter of your official first name and first letter of your official last name in lower case. Then the exclamation point (!). The last 6 characters are comprised of the birthday in the form of MMDDYY. Total 9 characters.

You will change your password but the username is always your student ID number.

Example: Johnny Titan with birthday of July 4, 2001 would have an initial password of: jt!070401

If you have been a PAUSD student (Gunn or any other school) and don't remember your password, try to reset it yourself by clicking on "need help" on the id.pausd.org webpage.

After exhausting all self-help options, send an email support@pausd.org

Back To School Packet

If you have been wondering where the back to school packet is, and could not find it on our website, here is the link. You will need your student ID in order to access it.

Access to a device:

Students will need a device such as a school-issued Chromebook to participate in distance learning. We will be issuing a tech survey to all parents prior to picking up books. The tech survey will need to be filled out (only) if a student does not have a school-issued Chromebook or any other device that allows them full access to their classes. Students are allowed to use their own device and do not need to be issued a school-issued Chromebook.

Safety and Health On Campus

All Palo Alto school campuses, including classrooms, offices, fields and athletic facilities are closed, in accordance with the Santa Clara County Office of Public Health and school district guidelines. We appreciate parents and students cooperating with this for the health and safety of all in our community.
