I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break and found ways to safely connect to celebrate with family and friends. The New Year often brings time for reflection. For many, it is understandable to look back at 2020 with frustration, disappointment, and angst. However, it is my hope that we are intentional in our efforts to recall the good that occurred as well. Truly, there are countless things to be celebrated in what has been accomplished and overcome throughout this very unique stretch of time. Please take a moment with your student and remind them how proud you are of them for managing the countless changes and opportunities 2020 brought.

As I look back on 2020, I find myself yet again inspired by the resilience of young adults, the power of community, and the impact of a staff that truly loves the work they do. I am truly grateful to be a part of the Warrior Family and the amazing school we have.

The New Year traditionally also brings a time for goal-setting. With the end of the first semester only two weeks away, it is a great time to set a goal for a strong finish. Make the most of our last full week of classes and get prepared for finals week! Let’s commit to giving our absolute best and get 2021 off to an awesome start.

All Juniors will take the ACT in school on Tuesday, March 9th. The test itself will continue to be on paper on March 9. Details will be provided as the date approaches.

On FEB 23, all Juniors will be completing the Pre-Test and Registration information for the ACT.

• This year, registration will be completely online in 3 sessions in the PAC.
• Full-time virtual students are welcomed to come in during one of the sessions below, or they can live stream (link will be provided).
• There will be safe distancing in the PAC for about 130 students, so the Junior class is divided as follows:

Session A: 7:25 - 8:30am (Last names A-I)

Transition: 8:30 - 8:45am

Session B: 8:45 - 9:45am (Last names J-P)

Transition: 9:45am - 10am

Session C: 10am - 11am (Last names S-Z)

This college fair will allow students and families to:

• Explore approximately 100 postsecondary institutions

• Experience virtual campus tours and get additional information at your convenience

• Search for colleges by programs, size, location using our filter options

• Watch videos and download materials helpful in your decision process

• Schedule meetings and interviews with admissions representatives

• Chat live with admission representatives from 3 to 5 pm (2/10, 3/10, 4/11)

• Join an interactive financial aid session from 5 to 6 pm (2/10, 3/10, 4/11)

The virtual fairs are offered monthly from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., followed by 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. interactive financial aid presentations.

Early College Credit Program (ECCP) allows a student in grades 9-12 to apply to enroll in a UW System institution or a participating private/nonprofit institution of higher education (IHE), to take one or more courses up to 18 credits, for which the student may earn high school credit and post-secondary credit. Students must meet certain criteria. The website with FAQs and more information can be viewed here. For more information about ECCP in the UW System, please click here. For more information about ECCP in the WAICU (Private Colleges & Universities), please click here. The deadline for submitting completed ECCP applications for Fall Semester 2021 is March 1, 2021.

Start College Now allows a student in grades 11-12 to apply to enroll in a Wisconsin Technical College, to take one or more courses up to 18 credits, for which the student may earn high school credit and post-secondary credit. The deadline for submitting completed Start College Now applications for Fall Semester 2021 is March 1, 2021. Students cannot be enrolled in both ECCP and Start College Now at the same time.

Mechanical

This month, the Mechanical Team fixed the previously bent intake on the main robot. They also started to redesign/prototype a new color wheel mechanism for better use and efficiency. The new mechanism can be used on either the 2020 robot or the 2021 robot. They also started to look at a new design for intake on the main competition bot for 2021.

Electrical

This month, the Electrical Team finished work on the redesign of the spark board which they used to test the motors they have. They have also finalized the design and are now working on building a spinning sign that the team can bring to competitions and show our team spirit.

Programming

This month, the Programming Team worked on the practice bot’s drive system. On the main bot, they wrote a new code for the drive system. They tried out curve drive compared to the usual tank drive to see if people would have more success driving the robot. They also continued to teach new members the basics of code with the practice bot and with parts of the main bot.

Business

The Business Team worked to continue getting sponsors. They also finished the Adopt A Robot Part fundraiser and were very successful. The business team continued teaching the whole team business and how to do different tasks like replying to sponsors, following-up with sponsors, sending out sponsor emails, and writing the Chairman’s essay.
