Balclutha Primary School - T1 Wk 8
Newsletter 26 March 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora e te Whānau,
This week we have had many of our wonderful supporters working together to make Balclutha Primary School a great place for everyone to be. On Wednesday evening the Whānau and School Group held their AGM and we would like to congratulate 2021 elected office bearers Sarah Sutherland, Carleigh Frisby, Alana Jamieson, Stacey Stewart and Shelley Smith.
As a school we appreciate all their hard work and are excited about the many fundraising opportunities they have coming up. We are very fortunate having such a proactive group supporting our learners and providing such fantastic support! We are all looking forward to tonight's "Jingo" fundraiser and hope to see you there!
On Thursday evening we held our Whānau hui. This was an opportunity for our parents to "brainstorm" ideas of how we will grow te ao Māori across the school and build on the wonderful work already being done by our classroom teachers and our cultural group.
Congratulations to those children who competed at the South Otago Swimming champs last week, with a special congratulations to Paige who qualified for the Otago Swimming Champs! Wonderful effort by you all!
Good luck to all the children attending Southland Athletics tomorrow!
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki Neave

Room 1
Room 2
It was lovely to read about everyone’s long weekend at writing time. Room 2 is a very busy class! We have been playing lots of games during reading time to help us learn our blends, rhyming words and high frequency words. The photos below show Cooper working hard on his maths and Georgia with one of our reading games.
Room 3 loves going to the library and reading books. We are learning how to choose books - we even like sharing our favourites with a buddy!
Room 5
We published our writing on Google docs.
Room 6 students (pictured below) identifying each other's strengths.
Room 12 have finished their cartoon artwork this week. Below are some pieces by Aidan, Malia and Joss.
Matthew, Room 11, has a passion for hunting and he brought in some of the trophy heads he and his father have 'collected' over the past years. The one on the left in the photo below is one he shot himself, just a year ago. His mum, Nicky, was also able to share some information about her job as part of our careers programme.
