NOVEMBER 2021
PTO PURPOSE
The Emmott Elementary PTO meets on a regular basis. The organization funds cultural arts activities and field trips, organizes volunteers, sponsors various student events, and conducts fund-raisers, which have provided technology, landscaping, books, and playground equipment.

PTO MEETING
OCTOBER 5, 2021
The meeting was called to order at 6:11 pm by Corresponding Secretary, Amanda Fong. President, Sheila Hutchins and 2nd VP were absent.
Staff Liaison Report: Melissa Robinson
· The end of the 1st Nine weeks is coming soon.
· College week is coming up. Students should dress up as their future selves.
Fundraising: Rose Caston
· Rose has been calling around to find a Fall Catalog fundraiser.
· The Spirit Store is doing very well. More merchandise is needed. Stacie Biggs will order more merchandise. Students like to buy slime, pop-its and glow sticks. The Spirit store is open every Friday. Volunteers are needed.
· PTO will host a Holiday Shop in December. Volunteers will be needed.
· Rose asked for ideas for Spirit Night Fundraisers. Chick Fila in Jersey Village was suggested. Questions: “Will it be monthly or every other month?” “Will we start in October and alternate restaurants?”
Membership: Melissa Martinez-Buenrostro
· So far, 117 families have joined PTO.
· PTO has earned $627 in dues and donations.
· Ms. Tomkins class is in the lead at this time.
· 100% of the staff joined PTO.
· Key tags will be sent home with the oldest child in the family of PTO members on 10/8. . Members can show the tag at PTO events to receive something free.
· If parents want to join and don’t have a form, they can send $5 to the office in an envelope labeled with their child’s name, grade and teacher’s name.
· The form will be posted on Facebook.
VIPS: Jamie Drew
· So far, 15-20 people checked the volunteer box on their Membership form.
· Jamie will prepare a spreadsheet of volunteers and share with Debra Schacherer so she can share with the teachers.
· A Sign-Up Genius was sent out asking for volunteers for the Spirit Store and Nature Trails Training. Heather Turner is in charge of Nature Trails.
· Jamie has a list of volunteers to contact.
· The staff Sonic drink delivery is on Oct. 15th. Volunteers are need for this Staff Appreciation activity. So far, Stacie Biggs and Jamie are the only ones signed up to volunteer. Three or four more people are needed after 2:00pm on the 15th to help deliver the drinks from Sonic.
· Volunteers will also be needed for Curriculum night on Oct. 26th.
· PTO would like to sponsor a “Trunk or Treat” during Curriculum night pending approval from Ms. Hernandez.
· A VIPS Kick Off is being planned. Deb said PTO could have it in the evening. PTO will provide pizza and the event will be called “Pizza on the Patio”. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 12th from 6:30-7:00 at the entrance of the school. Board members will speak about their positions and explain why they decided to volunteer. PTO will prepare a packet to go home in the red folders with a Membership form, volunteer information, PTO Newsletter and information about the VIPS Kick-Off.
· The Mother/Son dance will be November 5th from 6:30-8:30. Suggested names are “Harvest Ball” or “Fall Ball”. PTO needs to create a flyer, find a DJ, and decide on food and decorations. Rose Caston will coordinate.
5th Grade Day: Amanda Fong
· PTO signed a contract with Jostens to purchase Memory Books for each 5th grade student.
· Students will receive their Memory Books the week of May 23rd.
· The Memory Book cover design contest entries are due the first week of November. The winning design will be on the front and 4 Honorable Mentions will be on the back cover.
BOX TOPS: Priscilla Tilton
· The “Unlock Brighter Futures” Contest is still in progress. Emmott has earned more than $2,000 so far.
· The deadline for turning in Box Tops clips in November 1st.
· A possible Spring project will be “Penny Wars”. A class prize might be a skating party.
· Priscilla would like to place the coin collection bottle in the Spirit Store for students to donate their spare change.
Nature Trails: Heather Turner
· The final Nature Trails Training is Nov. 3rd. The Sign Up Genius will be coming soon.
Treasurers Report: Stacie Biggs
· The Treasurer’s report was reviewed and explained by Stacie.
· Spreadsheets reflect the balance in the checkbook.
· For the months of August and September, we spent as much as we made.
· Don’t forget to use Amazon Smile when ordering online. PTO will receive a percentage of the sales.
· We received 2 checks from Kroger.
· We just received a check from our Canes Spirit Night.
· PTO made $1,057 during Eagle Express.
· Spirit Store has had the highest income.
· The first Spirit Store brought in $202.
· PTO paid $3,000 for T-shirts.
· Amanda Fong finds lots of merchandise for the Spirit Store at very reasonable prices. (Amanda’s Treasurers)
· Expenditures for hospitality paid for a staff breakfast, cookies, pizza and supplies for a future Teacher Appreciation gift.
· PTO has a little over $7,000 in the savings.
· Stacie suggested that a few board members stay after the monthly meeting to conduct an audit each month instead of doing it all at the end of the year. The board members agreed.
· Rose Caston moved to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Jamie Drew seconded the motion. The Treasurer’s report was approved.
Staff Appreciation: Stacie Biggs
· The October staff appreciation gift will be a bag of “Bugs and Kisses”.
· Stacie asked for ideas for future gifts. Melissa suggested setting up a chips and cookie buffet after Halloween.
· The PTO will reimburse teachers $25 for classroom items they purchased with their own money.
Meeting Minutes: Priscilla Tilton
· The meeting minutes from the August meeting were reviewed. (Due to inclement weather, the September meeting was canceled.)
· Stacie Biggs moved to approve the minutes as written. Jamie Drew seconded the motion. The August meeting minutes were approved.
With no further business to discuss, Rose Caston moved to adjourn the meeting. Stacie Biggs seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 7:27pm.
