As we enter the season of renewal and life, I give you all the refreshed power to better those grades before finals.

On the night of March 16, 2019, an incident broke out between the Glendale Police and some teens at an all-night skating event at Great Skate. Sources say everything was fine until some boys started arguing. After the boys started arguing, they began to fight. That’s when the Glendale Police were called.

With summer right around the corner, I’m sure we’re all ready to swim, especially since we live in this oven of a state. But have you ever noticed that after you swim in a public pool or at a water park your vision is a little cloudy and your eyes sting a bit? That’s caused by cyanogen chloride and trichloramine. Both are proven to irritate eyes and lungs, and both are caused by mixing chlorine with sweat and pee and every other gross thing people bring in the water with them.

The Nike Chandler Rotary was one for the books. The AFHS Track and Field team brought home more than 20 medals. The Owls not only brought home many medals, but they also had multiple athletes and events qualify for state.

Lady Owls Softball Opens Season Strong

The softball Lady Owls are on their way to having an exciting and successful season. The Lady Owls record not including tournament games is 6-4. The Lady Owls have played two games recently. The Owls first game was against a tough Tolleson team. The Owls second game was against a not so threatening Metro Tech team. The Lady Owls had to get their minds right for these games.

Owls Volleyball Makes Noise at View Invitational

The week after spring break, the men’s volleyball team took their 11-2 record to Tucson for The View Invitational hosted by Mountain View Marana High School. Despite the two and a half hour drive, the Owls performed well, beating Catalina High School and avenging last year’s playoff loss to Canyon Del Oro in a 2-0 win before eventually falling to 3rd ranked Mountain View Marana to end group play.

Cheer Wraps up a Successful Season

With the 2018-2019 cheer season coming to a close, the team had many accomplishments as well as many memorable moments. Not only did they qualify for state, they also qualified for nationals. “Our ability to bounce back from problems we faced along the way shows a lot,” said senior Megan Mason.

Rep. Debbie Lesko Visits AFHS

In November 2018, Debbie Lesko went up against Dr. Hiral Tipperini for the House of Representatives seat for Arizona’s 8th congressional district, which is a majority of our students’ district. Before the election, Tipperini visited our school, but students never got to hear Lesko’s side. Now that she has won, representative Lesko came and visited Agua Fria on March 17.

The Role of Humans in Ocean Pollution

No one can resist a nice day at the beach during the summer, and a refreshing swim in the ocean. That would be nice if Earth’s water wasn’t loaded with trash. “Between 4 and 12 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year—enough to cover every foot of coastline on the planet!” said Brian Hutchinson at Ocean Society.

Prom Theme: It’s Great!
Agua Fria upperclassmen are in for an antique treat! When these students were released to go to the pep assembly on the Friday before break, they were more than pumped to find out what the prom theme was. At the end of the assembly, the well-loved theme of 1920s Great Gatsby was announced.

Everyone knows who Michael Jackson is; he’s a legend in the music industry, specifically the genre of pop. His other name, in fact, is the “King of Pop.” Recently, the TV channel HBO came out with a documentary about him titled “Leaving Neverland.”

It could almost be said to be a universal truth that high schoolers do not enjoy to read–especially when they’re told to. Whether it be because as a teen we reject everything any authority figure tells us, or because the fun is taken out with a grade attached, or because the books kind of sucks sometimes–we don’t usually like the books we’re assigned.
