Dear MVM Families,
We extend warm thanks and gratitude to our teachers for facilitating an Hour of Code last week, to parent guest speakers who presented to classes about technology, to the amazing parent volunteers who made a book fair at the Curious Iguana possible, and to committee chairs who consistently go above and beyond (Jen LA, Jen W, Meggan, Erin, Deb KT, Deb K, Jen N, Jen S, Steve F, and many more).
Book Fair Success
MVMPCS is happy to say that the partnership with The Curious Iguana for this year's book fair was a success!
Total raised for the school was $1188!
MVM Principal, Nancy Radkiewicz, presented Curious Iguana's co-owner, Marlene England, with a plaque create by Jennifer Leader-Anderson expressing MVM's gratitude for her gracious hosting of the weeklong event!

WANTED: Library Volunteers
Did you know our school library is almost entirely dependent on volunteers to remain open to students and teachers?
And lately, it has been closed. A lot. Why?
Because we are in dire need of more library volunteers.
- typically do 2 1/2-hour shifts in either the morning or afternoon
- can do as many or as few shifts as you want
- check out books to students, check in books and re-shelve them, straighten shelves, and refresh book displays
This is a great opportunity for stay-at-home or part-time working parents, for parents new to the school, and for parents looking for low-stress, rewarding volunteer work.
Training to become a volunteer is quick and easy. To become a library volunteer, please send an e-mail to Jill Renkey, Library Committee member and parent of an UE student, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Check lost and found. We have a huge collection of found coats, jackets, water bottles, etc. Claim it soon!!
Claim your plastic storage containers from the front office if you haven't yet. These were left after conferences.
Continue following our carline rules. If you use the parking lot, you must park and walk your child(ren) either into school or to the 'waiting area' (the white striped area near handicap parking).
...and thank you!!
FYI: Upcoming Vision and Hearing Screening
Hearing and Vision Screening will take place January 5th, 2016 for all students in Pre-K, K (if not previously screened in Pre-K), 1st, 8th and any new students from out of state.
Maryland State Law mandates this screening.
Any parent that does not want their child tested must also put this in writing to the health room. All written requests need to be submitted to the health room by Deember18th.
Please make sure if your child wears glasses that they have their glasses with them on screening days.
If you have any questions please contact the health room at 301-668-0667.
Did you try an hour of code?
If you didn't, it's not too late. Visit https://code.org/learn.
From the Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee has been distributing "Getting to know you" surveys to our staff members.
As they are completed, the surveys will be collected and stored in a central location. If you're interested in learning more about your child's teacher, their interests, hobbies, etc... feel free to look through the red binder located on the volunteer table outside of the main office.
We hope to have all of the staff members' completed surveys in within the next week or two!
Interested in teaching in FCPS?
Maybe you have a teaching certificiation or are eligible, maybe a friend, maybe a neighbor. Consider interviewing with FCPS, it's a great place to work. Sign up below for an interview time.
Dear FCPS Parents and Guardians:
FCPS is launching a survey on Monday, December 7 to gather your perceptions about your child's school. The survey will close Friday, December 18.
All FCPS parents/guardians are invited to participate in this survey. FCPS will share anonymous responses with each school.
Details went to MVM families on Dec. 3. Parents/guardians will receive a survey link via email to the address on file with the school. Paper copies of the survey will also be available at each child’s school. The survey takes about 15 minutes.
Online survey is available via computer or smart phone:
1. Go to https://surveys.panoramaed.com/fcps
2. Enter the following survey access code for Monocacy Valley Montessori School: 1119
3. Complete the survey.
Parent/guardian feedback is important in FCPS’s efforts to continue building on strengths and working to make improvements as a partner in your child’s education.
FCPS asks that parents/guardians seeking additional information or having questions about the survey please contact the front office at your child’s school.
