Our Mission:
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a good first week back. I think we are all moving slowly but surely back into our old routines. Please remind your child about their High Five Behaviors and about finishing the day a better student than the day before. I am looking forward to a successful 2016 at Oak Ridge.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Parrott
News and Notes
Kindergarten Welcome Night is Thursday, January 14, 2016
If you have a child who will be 5 years old before September 1, 2016, please plan on bringing your child and joining the Principal and Kindergarten staff at 6:30 p.m. in the Oak Ridge great room for an informational meeting and an opportunity for your future Kindergartner to meet the Kindergarten teachers and visit the Kindergarten classrooms. You will receive a Kindergarten packet from the school district explaining the registration process. Please pass this information along to any of your neighbors or friends who have children who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. We look forward to a great evening with your child.

On January 21st, at 5:00 pm, ROMS will be hosting Basketball and Popcorn night for all fifth graders and their parents. Student and parents are invited to view a ROMS basketball game and enjoy free popcorn. For more details, please view click here.
Guidelines for outdoor Safety Patrol in the winter months
The school district has set the guidelines for outdoor safety patrol. If the temperature with the windchill is below 15 degrees the students are not to be on post. Indoor safety patrol members are on duty regardless of the weather. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
No Professional Development Late Starts In January:
A friendly reminder that there are no professional development late start in the month of January. Please have your children at school by 8:20. Thank you.
Parking:
When dropping off in the morning, please pull up as far as possible in the front circle drive. This alleviates traffic backup and provides a safer drop off environment for all our students. Please do not stop in the middle lane to get out of your car. Thank you.
Dress your Children for Winter Weather
Please send your children to school with a warm coat, boots, snowpants, hat, mittens. The children will go out for lunch recess every day unless it is between 12 and 15 degrees or below factoring in the wind chill. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Have a question:
In the beginning of the year, Oak Ridge had a Curriculum Night to explain what your child will be doing this year in school. We understand that questions will occur throughout the year and wanted to provide a forum for those questions to be answered. We are instituting an Online Curriculum Forum to answer any specific questions you may have. If you have a question regarding overall school procedures, grade level content, schools of choice, or special education services please click on the following Google form: http://goo.gl/forms/toJIVPxQBb. Please make sure all questions are appropriate. We are all a community here, and as a community we need to treat each other with respect. Answers to questions will be posted on a weekly basis.
Parent Series
The Royal Oak PTA Council and Royal Oak Middle School are sponsoring a five part Parent Workshop Series. You are welcome to attend the entire series or simply the sessions that are of interest to you. The next session is January 14th, and is titled, "Riding the Pre-Teen Rollercoaster (without getting sick)." The focus of the session is the adolescent brain and improving communication skills with your child. The workshops are free.
