ELL December Newsletter
December News and Reminders
December Reminders:
- Log contact with student, parents, and teachers on ELLMS
- Formative Assessment and documentation
- Support time with students
*Remember - Reporting for ELLs will be going to parents/guardians the same time as our Summative Reports. By keeping notes on ELLMS and working on AIP goals, the report writing can become a heck of a lot easier*
Technology and ELL
NLPS has been working to identify websites and apps that are helpful to teachers and safe for students. Parents/Guardians have been asked to grant their students permission to use our technology bundles. Not sure what is included in our technology bundle? NLPSLearns makes it quick and easy.
Want to use an app that isn't a part of the bundle? Make sure that it is safe for students with no personal information being exchanged
Check out this poster that highlights some technology based supports that could be helpful for ELL learners.
Social Emotional Learning for English Language Learners
In a recent webinar by Diane Staehr Fenner and Mindi Teich, they approached CASEL's 5 SEL competencies from a Multilingual Learners point of view. These culturally inclusive responses to Social Emotional Learning can shed new light on how approach SEL with our students.
Multicultural Winter Holidays
Time to learn about other cultures and to celebrate diversity in our classrooms! Encourage students to share their stories and experiences around different traditions, celebrations, and food. Winter can look very different in our global community.
For example, my childhood experiences of winter include -40, skidooing on frozen lakes, snow piled to the sky, and backyard visits from the neighborhood moose - and all of this is not only in Canada, but in British Columbia! How do these experiences compare to our student stories from Nigeria, China, or Syria?
