Nuts and Bolts
A few reminders for all: Parents should NEVER be unescorted in the building. Anytime you have a parent conference or IEP, please send a staff member up to get the parent and bring back to the conference location. Also, if you prefer kids to answer the phone from the office, please assign someone responsible to consistently pick up the phone. Do not allow random students to pick up the phone. This is a safety and security concern and a PR issue when Jill is trying to find a student. Also, as noted in our staff handbook and shared at the beginning of the school year, grades should be updated WEEKLY in PowerSchool. Also, please see Ms. Culp's email for any leave reminders over winter break, but submit your preferences for December 19-20 to Jayne by this Friday. Finally, thank you to all the teachers, custodians, and administrators who worked the winter dance on Friday. It was a MAJOR success due to all your hard work! Thank you! (From the iReady/Skills Plus/Intervention teachers).
Tips for Surviving the Week Before Winter Break: From the GOLD committee
(1) Don't build anticipation by counting down the days. For many of our kids, the long break is not something they look forward to. (2) Resist the urge to ease up on expectations. (3) Review procedures and expectations. (4) Keep your regular routines as much as possible. Our kids need consistency. (5) Remember we are here because of our kids. Make them your first priority and enjoy them!

IB Assessments: Please remember to record IB Assessment grades each quarter in Powerschool. These should coincide with each unit's summative. The more we talk about it with our students, the more school-wide understanding will spread.
Special Connections: On Friday, December 14 during 4th and 5th blocks, these students have been invited to a special Caught Being... reward activity of creating a Global Gingerbread Village. They will have passes to leave class after 3rd block.
Students in Mr. Patton's classes have been partnered with students in the Netherlands to begin a cultural discussion as they focus on the key concept of global interactions while studying culture and identity.

Staff Handbook Tip of the Week - Social Media
Be mindful of your postings on your private social media sites and ensure that you are not putting yourself into a position that could compromise your profession. DO NOT “friend/tweet” your students in a social capacity. Use caution when “friending/tweeting” parents in a social capacity and ensure personal and professional relationships are not intertwined. The use of social media for student learning, professional growth and classroom communications is acceptable. Teachers wanting to post classroom activities, pictures of students, etc. should have a school Facebook page rather than using their own personal page.
