Cecilton Artists
Welcome to marking period 4 in art with Mrs. Barry!
In this final marking period, students will continue exploring and experimenting with art processes and materials! Mrs. Barry will be doing some “spring Cleaning” in the studio, so be on the lookout for projects and artworks your child may bring home from school.
Celebrate and acknowledge your child’s hard work in 3 easy steps:
Step 1: Express excitement, pride, and interest in your child’s work.
Step 2: Ask open questions about their artwork:
“Tell me about your art!”
“What is your artwork about?”
“How did you create your artwork?”
Step 3: Display the artwork where it can be shared and appreciated with friends and family members. Fridges, family rooms, and even frames (The dollar tree is my go-to!) are fabulous ways to show your child you are proud of their artistic accomplishments!
Reminders:
Please remember to dress appropriately for your art day, sometimes even washable materials can stain. If you have any baby wipes, art-related games, materials, or toys (legos, etch-a-sketch, pictionary, books, etc.)you are looking to donate, please consider the art department! We appreciate your support. Let’s have an art-astic end of the year with our talented tigers! - Mrs. Barry (jkbarry@ccps.org)
From the Media Center
Hello Everyone!
It's hard to believe we are already a few weeks into the fourth marking period.
In the fourth marking period, grades k - 5 will be jumping into Code.org. For grades second through fifth, we will be picking up from where we left off in the second marking period. Our coding tasks become more lengthy and complex, with a focus on debugging. Students get an opportunity to code a game and dance and share it with their classmates. In kindergarten and first, this is our first experience with code. So far, all students are able to log in, identify the parts of our screen, and manipulate the available code blocks to solve a small puzzle. This is amazing considering we have only had two weeks of experience. It is exciting to watch all progress with these new concepts.
In PreK, students have just started checking out books for practice. They keep their checked out books in their classroom library. This is such a great experience for them to practice checking in and returning books so they are ready for Kindergarten.
Students in second through fifth grades continue checking out two books per week. These students must have both books returned to check out any new books. I am so lucky to get to see many students reading their books so quickly, they get permission to visit the library before their actual media day to get new books. Students in kindergarten and first grade are practicing responsibility by checking out one book at a time. Checkouts are for one week and due on your student's media day.
And finally, there will be one more book fair this year. Our book fair dates are May 26 through June 1st. Students will visit the book fair during their scheduled Media class. We will offer E-Wallet again for this fair. It is such a great option so that students are not having to carry and manage cash. Look for more information in the parent newsletter as the date gets closer.
Happy Reading :-)

4th Marking Period Music
Kindergarten will be learning about different ways of using their voices and how this fits in with the idea of dynamics in music. We will also be learning about different instruments.
1st Grade will be working with melody, identifying higher and lower pitches, the pitches of the major scale.
2nd Grade will be playing pieces on the xylophones that feature the pentatonic scale. We will also learn more about melody and experience the 5-line staff.
3rd Grade will be identifying the letter names on the staff and playing a lot of recorder.
4th Grade will be composing rhythms and melodies in 4/4 time. They will also identify expressive elements such as accelerando, ritardando, and fermata.
5th Grade will be working more with chords. We’ll be playing 2 and 3 note chords on xylophones and ukuleles.
