OVERVIEW
This event connects companies and organizations with students seeking careers in digital, print and broadcast journalism, creative mass media, media sales, film, advertising and public relations. Career Day activities this year were two panel discussions with event sponsors, a networking luncheon and a career fair. This event is hosted by Grady College and the UGA Career Center, in partnership with the Georgia Association of Broadcasters.
Based on student feedback from last year, we moved Career Day to a Thursday to better accommodate class schedules. We were also able to provide a longer networking luncheon for students who might not have been able to attend the career fair portion of the day.
Check out a few highlights from Career Day 2018 below.
2018 ATTENDANCE
This year, we welcomed 100 professionals from 53 companies and 474 students and alumni to the annual Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day. This year's event featured our highest student engagement to date, a 20.9% increase from 2017!
Student excitement for the event was high this year--in our Grady College resume critique days on Monday and Tuesday before Career Day, we reviewed 110 resumes, over 50% more than last year.
Sponsors had the opportunity to view over 150 student resumes in the 2018 Journalism and Mass Communication Resume Book as part of their sponsorship perks.
PANELS AND NETWORKING LUNCHEON
Our 11:00 a.m. panel focused on Life After UGA: Insights for New Professionals with reps from Hope-Beckham, Raycom Media- WALB, Turner and WJBF- TV6.
