Family Writing Project Returns
Seneca Middle School January 30, 2024
Theme: "Write at Home"
What is the FWP?
The Family Writing Project offers a chance for families to gather and create a community of writers. Families meet weekly (for six weeks) to craft and share their writings. It gives students and families a chance to interact with each other and members of our community. Arthur Kelly founded the Family Writing Project in Las Vegas, NV, and shared his experiences in his book Writing with Families.
What are the dates and times?
The FWP will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 PM beginning January 30 and ending March 5, 2024. The FWP is open to ALL family members: students, siblings, parents, and grandparents! All necessary materials will be provided by SMS.
FEEL FREE TO ATTEND ALL OR SOME OF THE SESSIONS.
What should I expect?
You will be involved in various writing activities that reveal who you are and your family values. There are two primary components: writing and sharing! Sessions may include memory maps, nameplates, group poems, and other fun and engaging activities.
WHAT DO PARENTS AND STUDENTS SAY?
"The experience was very pleasant. When you sit down with such a diverse group and realize the overwhelming number of experiences, goals, and beliefs you share is very comforting. One of the things that impressed me the most is the participation on behalf of the students." (Anna, mother)
"The poem was great; we celebrated together to make several phrases work together. Also, I like writing down our opinions about things. This will also help me with my writing. The group interactions are nice. You get to know more about others in the group." (CJ, student)
"I think it was fun! I really liked how we built a poem based on different things. The best part of last week was getting to know each other. I wish it had been a longer session." (Patricia, student)
