From Murillo- All Seniors (except AP) must take a State mandated Civics Test. This is a graduation requirement that was put into the schools around three years ago. I have the three study guides in week 5 on Schoology as well as just posted by itself to make pulling them up easier. Complete this and study. Email me with a date to take the test. I would appreciate it if you could take it online or in class during A1 or B4. If you have circumstances that do not allow you to take the Civics Test in those blocks, please email me and I will work out a time with you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me gayla.murillo@hsv-k12.org

The Aerospace STEM Endowment Fund was established in 2015 to support students pursuing careers in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a professional mentorship opportunity for high school seniors, and to provide financial assistance to underrepresented and underprivileged students studying STEM disciplines at a public or private four-year college or university. Selection is based on academic performance, community service and leadership potential. This organization has created a mentorship program for current 11th graders, and there is a $5,000 scholarship at the end of senior year for which the students can apply. If there are any juniors who are interested, then applications are available in the counselor suite outside of Ms. Stephens' door.
SENIORS!!!!
SENIORS - Friendly Reminder – Have you submitted the FAFSA?
The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This is the application to receive money from the government to help pay for college such as Pell grant, work study, and loans.
If you already submitted the FAFSA – log back in to your account to view your Student Aid Report (SAR) to find out how much you qualify for. Your colleges will also be sending you a financial aid award letter (email and/or regular mail). This letter will show you how much the college is offering you and what you will have to pay. CHECK YOUR EMAIL! If you need help understanding all this info, let Mrs. Crigger know how she can help!
If you have not submitted the FAFSA – it’s not too late! Many colleges have a “priority deadline” of March 1. The priority deadline means you have the best chance to get the most money. So, now is a great time to apply! Please talk to your parents about the FAFSA! Mrs. Crigger is happy to help!
Need some help? Please reach out to Mrs. Crigger if you need help submitting the FAFSA or understanding your results! I’m happy to set up a time to talk with you/your family. Send me an email at sheri.crigger@hsv-k12.org with any questions.
SENIORS – College App Week in February! Haven’t applied to college? Want to apply to another school? Need a college back-up plan? Our state is hosting another College Application Week from February 22-26. This will be a great opportunity for seniors to submit an application for college for free. Details will be coming soon from Mrs. Crigger! Please be thinking about where you might want to apply!
Congratulations to our 5A Area 16 Champs! Shout out to Coach Brown and the Boys Basketball team for their win against Mae Jemison!
