It's time for Lakeside’s 3rd Annual Read-a-thon Fundraiser! Even virtual students can participate!!
Our Read-a-thon is a program that brings students together with family and friends to encourage reading and to build literacy skills. The main focus of the Read-a-thon is for everyone to know we are committed to Lakeside’s Literacy Vision: A school-wide community of lifelong readers who share their reading experiences with each other.
Our Read-a-thon will take place from February 1st through February 11th.
If your child is attending school face-to-face, then they should have received paperwork explaining how to activate their personal Read-a-thon page on Monday, Jan 25th.
If your child is a virtual student, you will receive an email explaining how to create their Read-a-thon page from home. Information will also be posted on Itslearning ELA virtual courses.
By simply activating your child’s personal page and using the promotional tools found there, friends and family anywhere in the world can show their support by making a donation to our Read-a-thon. All donations can be made through this link: https://www.read-a-thon.com/school/Lakeside-Middle-School_37052
Please share with family and friends.
Whether your child is a virtual or face-to-face student, we hope each one of you will participate in this fundraiser! If you have any questions, please contact Kim Driesse at kdriesse@forsyth.k12.ga.us or 678-965-5080 x431527.

Lakeside update on daily procedures
Doors will open at 7:45 for students that must be dropped off early. We encourage all car riders and walkers to arrive after 8:30 so they go directly to their first class.
Students will be kept in the cafeteria from 7:45-8:30 and we want to limit this number as much as possible.
Bus riders will go directly from their bus to their classroom.
Class Schedule:
In order to limit the number of transitions that students have each day, Lakeside will have a block schedule for the 2020-2021 school year. Students will have A day (1,3,5,7) and B day (2,3,4,8). Each student will see 3rd period each day as a regular length class that will also include lunch and PRIDE time (formerly 6th period).
Breakfast and Lunch:
Students will eat in classrooms on a daily basis for lunch but will rotate through the lunchroom when feasible. When eating in the cafeteria for breakfast or lunch, they will sit in a zigzag formation only using half of the available seats. We also will utilize our outdoor eating areas for classes to use for lunch. Students will still have the opportunity to purchase items for breakfast and for lunch from the cafeteria. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide microwaves for heating meals at this time, so students need to bring meals that do not need to be heated.
Technology:
As states in the FCS guidelines for reopening, we are encouraging students who have BYOT to utilize it in their classes as needed. We encourage students to bring devices from home if possible. We will have devices for students to use in the classroom if they do not have technology to bring with them.
Masks/Face Coverings:
Students and staff are expected to wear masks/face coverings whenever feasible. This includes classrooms, buses, and in hallways.
Lockers:
Students will be able to utilize lockers. Students will be assigned locker break times rather than going to their lockers in between class periods. Students will receive locker break schedules on the first day of school from their teachers.
Clubs:
Club meetings will begin later this year as we determine how to best hold these meetings. Please watch our social media pages and website for club meeting dates.
Parent Meetings:
All parent meetings will be scheduled online as virtual meetings. This includes Open House for 7th and 8th grade, Curriculum Night, IEP meetings, 504 meetings, parents conferences, etc.
Payments:
All payments should be made through MyPaymentsPlus. This includes payments for lunch accounts as well. Locker, agenda, and PE uniform payments and items from the Lions Locker are available through MyPaymentsPlus.
School Supply List:
Please use this link for the school supply list- School Supply List . We also encourage students to bring their own water bottle and hand sanitizer.
Families and Visitors:
Nonessential guests to the school building will be limited. Parents will not be able to drop off items with the exception of medication or eyeglasses.
