Please Re-Register for Giant A+
Beginning October 6, 2013 through March 22, 2014 Gayman Elementary will have the opportunity to earn cash through the Giant A+ School Rewards Program. All you have to do is log on to www.giantfoodstores.com/aplus to designate our school online using your Giant BonusCard.
After you register your card, each shopping trip at Giant using your BONUSCARD earns CASH for our school! Each month, the amount of CASH awarded will be updated on the Giant website. You can track the amount of points you earn for our school by checking your grocery receipt and online when you create an account at www.giantfoodstores.com. Our school will receive a check at the end of the program and the money can be used for any of our school’s educational needs.
Remember, even if you registered your card last year, you must re-register this year for our school to receive credit. Registration is easy and makes a HUGE difference to our school. We need your support. Please be sure to register your card to benefit Gayman Elementary using ID #05887. Also, don’t forget to encourage your friends and relatives to do the same. It could mean more CASH for our school!
Just a Friendly Reminder...
Just a friendly reminder that we will no longer accept any type of food for Birthday Treats. If you feel the need to treat your child to something special at school on his or her special day, here are some suggestions: Hand out small tokens such as pencils, stickers, bookmarks or erasers. Purchase one of our library books and dedicate it to your child. Send in a book for the class library. Let your child bring in photos of himself/herself over the years.

HOMEWORK TIPS!!!! Despite what some may think, homework is not the combination of two “four letter” words. It really is a useful teaching strategy. Homework reinforces concepts taught in school, keeps parents abreast of what is being taught, and helps promote responsibility and time-management skills. Please help your child understand that homework needs to be a priority, and should be planned into each night’s schedule. The easiest way to plan for homework is to set aside approximately the same amount of time each evening. For example, if your child is in third grade, you schedule 30 minutes of homework time each evening, even if your child does not have 30 minutes of actual homework. Any extra time could be used to practice spelling words, review science or social studies notes or study guides, read, and/or practice math concepts. By establishing a consistent routine, your child is less likely to rush through homework to get to other activities. Occasionally, homework may take longer than the “10 minute per grade level” guideline. However, if this occurs frequently or you have other concerns about your child’s homework routine, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or me to discuss your concerns.

Ronald McDonald House Says Thank You!!
As many of you know, Mr. Foster collects tabs from aluminum cans each year in an effort to support The Ronald McDonald House. Through his efforts, and that of the Gayman and Pine Run communities, approximately 120 pounds of tabs were collected.
