This Week at MHS
Here's what's happening October 18th-22nd!
Dear MHS Parents and Students,
This week we start to finally feel those wonderful fall temperatures! We hope that everyone takes some time to enjoy the weather while cheering on our ladies sports team that continue on their quest for state. Our volleyball team plays their first game in the state tournament this Tuesday and we wish them all the best in Murfreesboro. Our Lady Rebel Soccer team will battle Powell HS in the Regional Final Tuesday too. We believe in you!
Our Student Council is running a can drive this week to support the Community Food Connection! The teacher's class that collects the most cans or money earns a cookie cake. We are not just competing inside MHS - we are competing against all the MCS schools! Tuesday we will be hosting our annual Trick 'R Can during the activity period. If you bring two cans or $1, you can follow the trick or treat trail and collect some candy treats. So, bring your cans and support our Blount County families!!
All students will be taking the ACT Tuesday:
- Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT test
- Juniors will take a digital ACT test to help prep them for their spring test
- Seniors will take the ACT
Please see the unique schedule below and know that the end of the day will be an activity period.
The MHS School Counseling Office will host this year's Senior Success Night on Thursday, October 21 from 5:00-7:00 pm. All seniors and their parents are highly encouraged to attend this event. Representatives from local, college financial aid offices will be on hand to offer FAFSA help (please bring your laptop and know your FAFSA login information!). In addition, representatives from local community colleges and technical schools will be available to answer questions about admissions. Area businesses will be represented and will discuss future employment opportunities for our students upon high school graduation. This is a night not to be missed!
Invoices for fall and yearlong AP courses (Seminar, Research, and Chemistry) will be sent via email to families in early October. The MHS payment deadline for these exams is 10/29. If payment is not received by the deadline, your student will be dropped from the fall AP exam order. MHS will invoice students for spring coursework in early February. With questions, please contact Jennifer.abernathy@maryville-schools.org.
Wishing everyone a great week at MHS!

The TN Governor’s Schools provide 11 challenging and high-intensity programs which are hosted at area colleges for a short time during the summer. Only sophomore and junior students are able to apply. MHS can nominate high-achieving 10th and 11th grade students who are in the top 5-10% of their graduation cohort for these competitive, academic summer programs. The MHS deadline for Governor’s School application packets is Friday, November 19. Late submissions will not be considered for Governor’s School nominations.
