Summer Update: July 24, 2020

A Message from Principal Cooper:

Happy Summer, Dolphin Families!

It's hard to believe that we are only 4 weeks from the start of the 2020-21 school year. I know that the uncertainty presented by the pandemic is very challenging for parents, students, and staff. While COVID-19 has altered what education will look like this fall, we are doing our very best to ensure that our students are offered strong academic content and a system of supports and interventions to help them be successful.

Following the large rise in COVID-19 cases, the Sonoma County Health Officer announced that our county is placed on a watch list with 22 other counties. The governor announced new state and local criteria for holding in-class instruction. The reality of the spread of the virus in the county and state is causing school districts to have multiple plans (see the Return to School Plan below) in place for the 2020-21 school year. All schools in Sonoma County are obligated to only offer distance learning at this time (please see the below section on Selecting a Remote Learning Option).

Please Note: Due to these constantly changing times, you may receive more than just the usual monthly newsletter to provide you with the most recent information available. I want to personally thank you for your patience and understanding.

None of what we prepare for is going to work if we do not work closely as a school and home community. Our students and their futures are extremely important. Dolphin Staff and Dolphin Families must work together to attain success regardless of what model we are working with.

Thank you for continuing to read these updates and please encourage other Dolphin Families to stay connected electronically. Online updates are going to be the way that we communicate while we are not on campus together, so we need all our families connected to us via online platforms.

Though this summer is certainly unlike those we've had in the past, I hope you have still been able to have the opportunity to relax, recharge, and enjoy the sunshine. I know I have been trying to keep my own three little kids cool by making lots of lemonade, popsicles, and playing in sprinklers!

Please reach out to me if you need anything since our main office is now closed throughout this month. I can receive emails in both English and Spanish at

Thank you and I hope, above all, you are safe, healthy, and doing well.

Selecting a Remote Learning Option for Your Student

We are looking forward to welcoming our students back for the 2020-21 school year in the safest way possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, which at this time means remote learning. Parents will pick an option for their student by filling out a form in Illuminate Education, which was sent to you Wednesday, July 22.

School will begin on Monday, August 17th. All SRCS families will select one of these two remote learning options for their student: Learning House or Distance Learning. For more information on these, please check out the district webpage on them: Remote Learning Options for 2020-21

Please do the best you can to select an option at this time. We will be contacting families in the future with more information, but this choice will allow us to do critical planning to get the school year started. If you have questions particular to your school, please me at If you have general questions, please contact Cindy Deuel at (707) 890-3800 x80302 or

Below is a walkthrough of the process for selecting these.
