Cedar Reader Remote Learning
Week of May 11, 2020
Message From the Principal
Welcome to another week of remote learning. I hope you are all doing well and had a good weekend.
We are making plans for students to pick up their belonging on June 2 & 3. Watch for more information to come with details about times and alpha assignments. Additionally, we are also working with the other middle schools and our two high schools for an 8th grade closure and send off. More details on that will come this week.
Families in our community continue to fall behind and need more support. Please consider donating to the Resource Fund, if you can; this fund turns every $1 donated into $3 at the Oregon Food Bank, that directly supports families in our community.
Be well. Take care of each other. Breathe.
Best,
Dr. Anderson
AVID Announcement
Attention 6th and 7th graders! Did you know that Cedar Park has an elective class called AVID? This class is for motivated students who want to improve their skills in school, be a leader in the community, and build the skills needed for success in college and beyond. The AVID elective class is for those of you who want to go to college and are willing to work hard, but are unsure about how to get there and need additional support from the adults and peers.
To be considered for AVID you should: have average test scores, 2.0-3.5 GPA or average on your report card, and exhibit college potential with support. Other selection criteria include: first in your family to attend college, historically underserved in four-year universities, economically disadvantaged, or special circumstances.
If you are interested in AVID, you need to complete the following steps:
Download a copy of the AVID Application, and fill out everything except for the teacher / counselor recommendation.
Send your completed application to one of your current teachers. They will fill out the teacher / counselor recommendation section and they will send the completed application to Katie Pearson.
Applications are due no later than May 22nd. Please contact the AVID elective teachers if you have any questions. AVID elective teachers are:
6th: Mr. Feely: Richard_Feely@beaverton.k12.or.us
7th: Mrs. McMurtry: Kristen_McMurtry@beaverton.k12.or.us
