MAY 2019 Student - Parent Newsletter
Principal's Message
I am in the development phase for planning the 2019-2020 Culver Park schedule. I sent out a survey on April 23rd requesting your input, but there was a problem with the survey. I will resend it to you on Wednesday, May 15th. Please complete the brief survey as you receive it so I can include your input on the development. Students are providing their input this week during homeroom.

Academics
ENGLISH
My English classes have transitioned into some projects that tie into the work (literary and expository) that we have read this quarter. Classes are doing projects around "The Rocking Horse Winner," Julius Ceasar and A Raisin in the Sun.
MATH
Our Geometry class built two tents to discover real life measurement (1-D), area (2-D), and volume (3-D). We will work on building zip lines in our Avengers theme before taking our actual SBAC at the end of May. All juniors will be testing starting on the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
Several students attended CCUSD’s look into the future of Culver Park’s permanent building on Thursday, May 9th. Architecture and urban planning has so much to do with problem solving, analytical, and creative thinking. We look forward to hearing more from CPHS’s Master Plan of the permanent building at our current location by the creek and incorporating the ideas into our math classrooms.
SCIENCE
The greatest weakness lies in giving up. The strength of a person is seen when he is ready to try again. We have all heard the proverbs: failures are the stepping stone of success, if you fail ten times. So I encourage you to stand up and be ready for an achievement the eleventh time. If you need help don't hesitate to ask.
SOCIAL STUDIES
The school year is coming to a close and my classes will all be ending with culminating assignments. In United States History we will be covering the Civil Rights Movement and finishing off the year with a presentation on the future of domestic policy including such topics as Education, Civil Rights, the Presidency and Technology. In Government students will continue to work on their Civic Action Projects, at this point they should have selected their topics and have started to plan their first civic action. Some examples of topics selected by students this term include mass incarceration, drug addiction and gun regulations. In World History we will begin the Cold War, looking at key events and hotspots through declassified CIA and NSC documents from the Cold War era and finish with a presentation on Post- Cold War challenges. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me at : stephaniebentsvi@ccusd.org.
