Awesome Academics
Gearing Up for State Exams
It's that time of year to ensure our scholars are ready to show their best on the upcoming Forward Exam and Pre-ACT. To this end, WIN class in 3rd-10th grades will focus on specific skills necessary to demonstrate proficiency on the exams.
Scholars in 6th-10th have begun working in Khan Academy and scholars in 3rd-10th will begin working in Common Lit to practice skills necessary for grade level mastery. Both apps are available from our school website on the parent tab-under the Clever portal. Teachers will also begin preparing scholars with public, released items so that all scholars feel confident and ready to show their best on the exams.
The following family brochures provide helpful information about the upcoming state exams.
Culture Connections
Black History Month Poster Challenge
Hello TLA families, our scholars are still learning the virtue of EMPATHY.
“Empathy is the ability to understand and connect to the feelings of another. ”
We are celebrating Black History Month black history month with a Poster Challenge for the scholars. See the image below for details. As your scholar is learning 3 things about the person they chose, please help them connect the virtue of empathy to that person's life. That could be how the person showed empathy or how empathy was shown to them.

Career Chat with Ms. Benisch
February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! 12.3 million youth are enrolled in CTE programs across the country. We offer a variety of CTE course at TLA, that allow scholars to explore careers in construction, manufacturing, design, engineering, robotics, healthcare and more. Our mission is to prepare scholars of all ages for future success by helping them develop skills, technical knowledge, academic rigor and real-world experiences through these courses. We are also continuing to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) this month as our career focus. CTE and STEAM month compliment each other.
Scholars in Welding and Robotics courses will be receiving Blackhawk Technical College (BTC) and TLA credit simultaneously. Scholars have applied to BTC and registered for their courses. This is a great way to get a jump start on college.
Early College Credit Program & Start College Now
The Early College Credit Program (ECCP) permits anyone in 9-12th grade to attend a University of Wisconsin College to take one or more courses and earn both high school and college credit simultaneously.
The Start College Now (SCN) program permits anyone in 11-12th grade to attend a Wisconsin Technical College to take one or more courses and earn both high school and technical college credit simultaneously. SCN includes certificate programs such as Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Safety, etc.
If interested in participating in either program, scholars must submit the application to the High School College and Career Counselor by March 1 for Fall and October 1 for Spring courses. If a comparable course is offered at TLA the course will not be approved to take as SCN or ECCP. All University of Wisconsin System institutions and all Wisconsin Technical Colleges participate in the program. Private colleges and universities participation is an individual decision.
Once approved, scholars will apply to the college of higher education during the semester before enrollment. They must meet admission requirements and application deadlines. Scholars will only be admitted if there is room in the course. The scholar is encouraged to list alternate course selections so that the High School College and Career Counselor can determine the acceptability of alternative courses if first-choice courses are full.
Scholars will earn .25 high school credits for every one credit earned at a post-secondary institution. TLA will pay for up to 18 credits of SCN/ECCP during your time at TLA. Scholars cannot enroll in ECCP and SCN in the same semester. TLA will seek reimbursement from the parent/guardian and scholar for any class that a scholar drops or fails while participating in the SCN or ECCP.
Clubs
Please log on to Skyward and pay the club fee if your scholars are participating in a Quarter 3 club. High school scholars looking for extra study help can sign up to participate in Study Club on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00. Please sign up here.

- Middle school wrestlers participated in the Pecatonica/Argyle wrestling tournament where Dylan Van Fleet and Deputie Douglas showed great improvement placing 1st and 3rd, respectively.
- The JV Boys Basketball team showed great improvement avenging a loss from earlier this season vs. Parkview. They went on to lose their last two games vs. Williams Bay and North Boone.
- The JV Girls basketball team showed true grit last week at the first two rounds of the Freeport Invitational. After dropping the first game to Rockford Auburn 48-57, the girls came back to beat Jefferson in a thrilling 55-54 win! Nice work ladies!
