Keeping Up With Kindergarten
Mrs. Enright's Class
January 15, 2015
We have had a great 2 weeks back from break! It was so nice to hear about all of the exciting things the kids experienced during their time off. We have been working hard in our guided reading groups and also started working with our new set of iPads that we're sharing with 1st grade. We are looking forward to our first community meeting of 2016 next week and meeting with our buddies at the end of the month!
What's Happening in the Classroom?
Literacy: Now that we have transitioned into unit 2 of our curriculum, we have spent the last two weeks doing a quick run through of uppercase letter formation. We have successfully moved through letters A-P and the kids are doing great with the fast paced work. We have continued sounding out CVC words in whole and small groups and will soon be moving onto letter blends!
Math: We have just begun basic addition and the kids are really enjoying it. We watched a brain pop jr. video (see picture above!) to learn that there are many ways to solve addition problems. This week we focused on drawing a picture to help support our answer using whiteboards in addition to learning how to use the + and = symbols in number sentences.
Social Studies: Now that we are moving into our new unit of study in our Social Studies curriculum, we are learning about how to be a good friend and make positive choices when interacting with peers. We revisited our bucket fillers books and also read, "The Recess Queen" by Alexis O'Neill. We shared about our different experiences and ideas on how to be a good friend.
