Park Trails Families,
Welcome to February!!! Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable New Year. The entire Park Trails faculty/staff wishes you a year filled with happiness and good health.
February will be a busy month at Park Trails. We have Take Your Child to Work on February 2nd, Mayor’s Chess Challenge on February 4th, Jump Rope for Heart on February 10th, Valentine’s Day on February 14th, and FSA Writing for 4th/5th on February 28th.
We are also in the process of Address Verification for all students at Park Trails and the City of Parkland. Please be on the lookout for information in your child’s backpack. All families must turn in the necessary documentation in grades Pre-K - 5. If you need assistance or copies to be made, please stop in to our front office.
During the month of February, we are planning on having a “mock” safety drill. Administration and teachers will meet with the Safety Department to review policies and procedures. Details about the drill will be communicated with families via ParentLink as we approach the date of the drill.
Lastly, please spread the word in the community that on March 17th we are having our Park Trails Kindergarten Round-up. We are hoping to see as many of our incoming Kindergarten families as possible for this event.

Counselor's Corner - By: Jane Steiner, School Counselor
During the month of February, the character trait highlighted is HONESTY. I will be reading "Ricky Sticky Fingers" by Julia Cook. Students who are chosen to represent their class for displaying honesty will be highlighted on the morning announcements show and receive a certificate at the end of the month. -Role Play: You have a friend who always gets in trouble. Your parents want you to stop hanging out with him. You still like him and don’t think your parents understand. He asks you to spend Saturday with him at the mall. Now you have to get your parents’ permission. - Follow-up questions: Put yourself in your parents’ shoes and ask these questions: What would be my worst fear? How could you talk to me about these fears? How could you show me that you are ready for this responsibility? What would be a fair solution to this problem?
