Writing
Science Fair took over our classroom before break! Because of that, we did not get to finish editing our narratives. That will be our priority in writing until they are finished!
Reading
We didn't quite get done with The Tiger Rising before break. We will finish the book tomorrow and then move on to a whole class novel, The Hundred Dresses. While reading The Hundred Dresses, we will focus on using the reading skills we learned first quarter, while also learning about QAR (Question Answer Relationships) in reading. Students will learn that some questions are able to be answered directly from text evidence while others can only be answered while using context clues, inferences, and background knowledge.
Language Arts
Wordly Wise: We will introduce unit 5 this week. 5C & 5D will be due Thursday. The unit 5 test will be on Friday, 11/4.
Words Their Way: We will continue splitting into our small groups for spelling this week. Tic-Tac-Toe activities will be due on Friday, which will also be their quiz day.
Math
This week, we will continue working on unit 2 in math. Topics covered will include: converting units of time, multiplicative comparisons, and multiplicative number stories.
Indiana History
Indiana law states that all students must be taught about the election process during the years of presidential elections. This is our lucky year, so we will spend this week studying the United States election process. We will focus on the concepts of the political parties, voting process, and will learn a little about each of our candidates. The goal is for this to be unbiased, age-appropriate, and informative. We talk about how voting is a private matter and that just as I won't be sharing who I plan to vote for, I do not want them to repeat any political talk that they have heard at home.

Chaucie's Place
Stonegate Elementary is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™ to our Kindergarten, 2, and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. We will be hosting one on Thursday, November 10th from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Education Service Center. This meeting is open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten thru 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
Cardboard Challenge
Stonegate Elementary is excited to participate in the Global Cardboard Challenge this year!
There are 2 options for participating in the Global Cardboard Challenge.
1. We will be hosting a "Build Day" on Saturday, November 5, from 8:00-12:00 in the Gym. Families are invited to come and build as a family. We will provide materials that are donated for this event, and encourage you to bring materials as well.
2. Build with your family anytime between now and November 7th. You may then bring your creation to Stonegate on November 5th between 8:00 and 12:00 for us to store until Monday evening, or send your creation to school with your child on Monday.
All creations that are at Stonegate will be put on display on Monday. Students and their families are invited to come to Stonegate on Monday, November 7th from 6:00-7:00 to see the creations that our students have made!
