Free Public Education

Section 5 of Article IX of the California Constitution guarantees students a “free and appropriate public education”. The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extracurricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities”. This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State constitution”. Furthermore, the State Supreme Court also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged as long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay”. I would like to assure you that Cerro Villa Middle School does not engage in a “pay for play” system.

PFSO (PARENT FACULTY STUDENT ORGANIZATION) INFORMATION

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! The Cerro Villa Parent Faculty Student Organization (PFSO) is the non-profit organization that works with our Cerro Villa faculty and staff to enhance the educational experience for our students. Our "Non-Event Registration Fundraiser" sponsors Student of the Month, Staff Appreciation and Teacher Goals requests - just to name a few. In light of these unique times we are excited to announce an option to join the PFSO electronically! The link to PFSO is http://www.cvpfso.org/ You will then follow the steps and pay via Paypal. Your $10 fee provides your family with membership, as well as a car decal, which we will drop in the mail to you. You will also still have the option to become a member during drive-thru registration. Everyone is welcome to attend our monthly PFSO meetings. Our meetings are held in the Cerro Villa Synergy Center (Cerro Villa Library) on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 8:30 am. Please come and hear about the happenings at CV. In addition, we have the monthly "Viking News" that is a great source of information. The newsletter is sent electronically to all CV families.

Stay connected with the happenings at CV by joining the PFSO! Together, we can make this year a great experience for your child. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me any time by email at cvpfso@gmail.com. We hope that you enjoy your time at Cerro Villa Middle School.

Go Vikings!

Birthday Message

Do you have a birthday you would like to showcase? If you would like to see it in lights, we are personalizing your students’ special day on our marquee. Please contact Student Services at (714) 997-6251 for details and to reserve your date.

Free Money

We call it “Free Money” since often we are able to get donations from sources outside of our Cerro Villa families! This often enables us to earn money for CV just by shopping or by getting matching funds for money that we were going to donate anyway. It’s a great way to earn additional money for our school!

Did you know that when you do your shopping with Amazon you could be giving back to Cerro Villa? By going to https://org.Amazon.com and specifying “Cerro Villa PFSO” our school could be getting cash every time you shop!

Does your workplace offer a donation matching program? Some companies offer dollar-for-dollar matching funds for employee charitable donations. The Cerro Villa PFSO is a 501(c)3 organization and could qualify for your employers matching funds! If you have any questions contact your Human Resources department or contact the CV PFSO at cvpfso@gmail.com.
