Dear Parents, Whānau and Caregivers
A special welcome to Sihan Sharma who has started at Paparangi in Team Pounamu - Nau mai, Haere Mai! Kia ora and welcome to our friendly school!
Teacher Only Day
A reminder that today is the last day of term and tomorrow school is closed for staff to take part in Professional Development.
Thank you to Paparangi Staff
What a start to the year it's been! Thanks for your grit and for finding wonder in all the hybrid learning this term. Well done for your team work - thanks for pitching in to share the load. Most of all, you’ve ensured Paparangi is a safe place for our tamariki and each other and for that I am grateful.
Happy holidays!
Safe travels to staff, families and whānau who are set to explore NZ or beyond over the term break! To everyone, I wish you a relaxing and refreshing holiday! I look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday 2 May for the start of Term 2.

Covid19 Update
What a term it's been! Thanks to parents, whānau and staff for their support and understanding as we've worked together to keep school going this term!
During the term break, if your child becomes a household contact or tests positive, please continue to notify us so that we can track cases in our school and confirm your child's return to school date in May.
I'll be in touch at the end of the holidays with an updated Health and Safety Plan with the Government announcement today that New Zealand is moving to the ORANGE traffic light setting. Next term we look forward to welcoming all students back to school. As we reach the end of term:
- We have a small number of students isolating at home because they are a positive case or a household contact (less than 5%).
- This week we have had 2-3 staff away each day.
Thank you to our Amazing Road Patrollers!
Thank you to our amazing road patrollers - Stella, Ryan, Anika, Xavier, Isabelle, Gracie, Zach and Lila - who dedicated a lot of time this term to doing road patrol duty. Due to COVID-19 and other police operations, the constable was unable to come and train new recruits last year meaning we were left with only these 8 children at the start of the year trained to do road patrol.
It hasn't always been easy but they have been out there everyday to ensure that the Paparangi School community are safe crossing the road and we really appreciate it. To recognise their efforts, these students were treated to a hot pizza lunch last week. We hoped you enjoyed it team - you deserved it!
Last week Constable Madar trained some new recruits to provide well needed relief for the 8 children above. Congratulations to the road patrol team's newest recruits: Cameron C, Cooper B, Saniyah, Liceth, Izzy S, Kaitlyn B, Shaam, Joey, Victor, Archie, Emma P, Evan, Evelyn, Jake, Kaitiaki, Payton T, Teo, Ainsley, Nazar, Oscar, Seth, Rocky, Amy, Judah, Courtenay and Johnny. We look forward to seeing you on duty representing the school next term. Thank you to Constable Madar from New Zealand Police for training our tamariki!
Superb effort for Enviro Day!
This week we held our first 'Enviro Day' of 2022 of the year. The theme was Waste Free Paparangi where tamariki from all syndicates focussed on recycling, composting, zero waste lunch boxes, litter bug prevention around the school and the tidying up and prep of our areas ready to plant, decorate or redesign! The Eco Warriors have done a terrific job introducing themselves to the other classes and explaining the new and exciting projects they'll be undertaking within the school.
Thanks to families who donated an item for the Gardening Drive. We are thankful for the many donations of seeds, cuttings, bulbs, plant pots, plants and gardening tools. If you still have any of these items going spare, we would love to have them! If you would like to volunteer to help with enviro projects, please contact the Enviro Lead Teachers, Sam Diggins or Christine Latimer sam@paparangi.school.nz (Y1-3) or christinel@paparangi.school.nz (Y4-6).
Here are photos of tamariki exploring and helping out during yesterday's Enviro Day:
Wonderful Wheels Day!
Thank you to all those tamariki and adults who helped to make our Wheels Day GROW reward a success last week. Whether it was helping to come up with ideas, setting up, braving the weather, helping with traffic control or just generally showing heaps of respect, everyone played their part and did an awesome job helping to make the day run smoothly. Although the weather was not ideal, we still managed to have a great day full of fun! A special thank you to the amazing support crew (pictured below middle) who helped plan, set up and pack down the Wheels Day course. Not only did they do this but during their own time, volunteered to be safety monitors and rode around helping others. Ka rawe!

Are you okay?
The Ministry of Health and Mental Health Foundation, have launched a multi-media mental wellbeing campaign to support New Zealanders through the latest wave of COVID-19.
COVID-19 keeps throwing new challenges our way, and there are all sorts of ways of coping. We might be feeling all sorts of emotions right now but with the support of friends, whānau, our community and those we love, we can get through this like we’ve done before.
