Field trips to the Myersville Community Library
So far this year, fourth and fifth grade students have had the opportunity to walk to the new Myersville Community Library and explore all that it has to offer. The trips have been happening on Monday afternoons during September and October. There are trips planned for second and third grade later this month and in December and first grade and Kindergarten in January. If you have not had an opportunity to check out the new library for yourself, I hope you can stop in over the next few months.
Second Grade Pumpkin Book Character Projects
Second grade students participated in a project to create pumpkin book characters using one of their library books. The project was a collaboration between second grade teachers and the library and was a lot of fun for the students to complete. Students learned about character traits and how to recognize them in the books they are reading. Then they created a pumpkin book character to represent a main character from their chosen book. The outstanding projects were on display in the library during the last week of October and the books were very popular with students from all grades during book check out time the following week.
There is a link to a video of the projects on the Media Center Homepage and it is below too. Enjoy!
Book Fair
Myersville held another successful Book Fair during conferences week. The students were very excited to see all the books available. Thank you for all for the support during the book fair. All proceeds from the sale of books goes back into the media center program.
Library Statistics
One goal that was set for the library this year was to increase the number of books students were checking out and reading. We have always had good circulation numbers at Myersville but I was interested in increasing options for students to check out books. Book check out time was extended each morning before instruction starts and the number of books students could check out at a time was increased from 2 to 3 for third, fourth and fifth grade students. Here is a quick comparison of circulation numbers so far this year compared to last school year.
Book check outs through November 10
2018 - 4,189 books
2019 - 6,483 books
