Hawk Happenings
August Reminders - August 22, 2017
The countdown is on!
On Wednesday, August 23rd, we will post class lists at our main entrance at 4 PM. Families can visit our campus at your convenience to find out your child's placement. Note that to maintain student confidentiality we print only student ID numbers. These numbers are your child's lunch numbers. If your child has forgotten his/her lunch number, please call the school and we can provide that for you after you verify demographic information.
Meet Your Teacher is Friday, August 25 from 8 until 9:30 AM. Please make sure to visit the Media Center to double check bus routes, pick up car rider tags (also can be done in the classrooms), learn more about clubs, get help filling out Free or Reduced Lunch Forms, and sample breakfast items from our Cafeteria. Make sure to provide an updated email address in your child's classroom and your child's t-shirt size for the upcoming BoosterThon Fun Run!
Please remember that all school traffic should use Yost Street which is off Merrimon Avenue when dropping off students and picking up students as car riders. Parents are welcome to walk their child to their classroom the first few days of school but you must stop by the office to get a visitor sticker. After the first few days of school, parents who wish to visit the classrooms must sign in on the LobbyGuard computer system. Your patience the first couple of weeks of school is much appreciated as traffic will be heavier than normal. Please give yourself more time than expected when visiting our school at the beginning of the year.
We are in the process of having our parking lot paved. We are not sure when this will be finished but hopefully by Friday morning! Please do not park across Main Street in our neighbors' gravel lots in front of their homes. Last year, we had several cars towed when our parents parked in these areas. On Friday and next week, we will open our gate to the back field (weather permitting) for additional parking. Staff members must park in the paved spaces so their cars are not on the field during recess. Parents are welcome to park on the field but please do not park on the kickball field. All cars parked on the field should be moved by recess time for safety.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

IMPORTANT LINKS AND INFORMATION
Check out the links below to learn more about how to stay engaged and involved in our school!
Parent Portal Link - This link is temporarily disabled but this is where you can create an account to check in on your child's grades. Parents are encouraged to sign up for an account! Remember that in 2nd grade we only use this system for report card grades but starting in 3rd grade, teachers enter grades either weekly or bi-weekly. In order to create an account you need an information sheet from Mrs. Griffee in the main office. She cannot fax it, email it or mail it.
Contact Manager Link - This link will allow you to choose how you want to be contacted through our SchoolMessenger phone and email system. Please make sure your phone numbers are updated in this system. We also ask that you provide an email address if you have one. The information that you record here is how you will be contacted if we have a change in the school schedule due to weather and/or how you will be contacted if we have an emergency. Please keep this information current!
School Nutrition Link - Click here to read about the School Nutrition program and how to set up an online lunch payment. Remember that we provide breakfast free of charge for all students. If your family needs some support, you are HIGHLY encouraged to click this link to fill our our Free/Reduced Lunch Form - FRL Form. Our Title 1 funding is based on our percentage of students on Free or Reduced Lunch so we WANT families to complete an application. The process is completely confidential. We will also send home hard copies of the application form at the beginning of school. FAMILIES WHO QUALIFY MUST FILL OUT THE FORM EVERY YEAR IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH.
BOX TOPS SWEET TREAT!
Don't forget that students who bring in 25 Box Tops will participate in a Sweet Treat at the beginning of the school year! Please label the bag with your child's full name and grade level.
