Greetings from the Principal
Dear Riverview Families,
Welcome back to the 2015-16 school year…”Starring: Riverview!” I feel honored to work with our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our wonderful students, and all of the supportive parents. The elementary years are an important time of development for children, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this a successful school year. Thank you to those families who were able to attend the Back To School Bash last week where students and families enjoyed the opportunity to meet their new teachers for the school year.
The Riverview staff thanks you for entrusting your children with us each day. We welcome your partnership in their education. We look forward to the first day of school for students in grades 1-5 on Wednesday, August 19, and kindergarten students on their first day of school, Thursday, August 20. My door is always open, so please stop by any time if you have a question or if I can help in any way.

School Safety Policy & Procedures
As you are aware, student safety continues to be a high priority at Riverview. In the interest of security and safety for students and staff, please help us by following these guidelines and reviewing them with your child.
- Students may enter the school through the front entrance doors from 8:30 – 8:50 am. The doors will be locked at 8:50 am and all students who are not on campus by that time will need to enter through the office and be marked tardy. Students arriving tardy must be accompanied by an adult and signed in.
- Supervision is provided starting at 8:30 am. Please do not bring your child to school before that time since there is no supervision. Students are not allowed to be left unattended in front of the building before 8:30 am.
- All parents/visitors must report directly to the school office and enter through the front office entrance. The office personnel will provide information and assistance in an effort to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum.
- Please place the school phone number in your cell phone: 913-441-0808. This will help expedite communication when a prompt response from home or school is needed.
- If your child(ren) will be absent at school at the start of the day, please contact the office before 8:50 am using the Absence phone line,
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
- All walkers dismiss in front of the school at 3:50 pm. In the interest of student safety, K-2 students are not allowed to walk home without an adult or sibling in grades 3-5. Please observe and abide by crosswalk rules while you are on school property, and when entering/leaving school property.
- Half-Day kindergarten students will dismiss in the west parking lot in front of the school.
- Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade students who are the oldest or only child(ren) out of their siblings attending Riverview, and students who are currently in grades K, 1, or 2 will dismiss from the back car loop (west car entrance).
- Kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade students who have siblings at Riverview in grade 3, 4, or 5, or students who are currently in grades 3, 4, or 5, will dismiss from the front car loop (east car entrance).
- Please use a large hanging placard with your last name on it (or last names of children picked up if carpooling) during car loop dismissal to speed the process up (these can be purchased through the PTA as well).
- Parents will be contacted at 4:00 pm if no one has picked up their child.
- Please call the school by 3:00 pm to communicate a change in the way your child(ren) will be going home that day. We are unable to effectively communicate changes to students after 3:00 pm.
Minimizing Classroom Disruptions
Every effort is made to minimize classroom interruptions. Please help us with the following guidelines:
- Make sure your child is well prepared for school each day. Please communicate with the front office, and dropped off personal items such as backpacks, instruments, or lunches will then be delivered in a timely fashion.
- Please notify the classroom teacher 24 hours in advance of bringing healthy treats/birthday celebrations. Once these are dropped off at the front office or sent to school with the student, the classroom teacher can determine the most appropriate time for the celebration to occur.
