Lockers
Students,
We will start using lockers full time this week. Make sure you do not pre-set your lockers or give your locker combination to any of your peers.
Your locker is a safe place to keep your things. You are the only one who can get into your locker; make sure you keep it that way. The school will not be held responsible for your items. Keep them secure.
Sincerely,
Mr. Smith

Cheer on the girls as they get ready to travel to Ludington!
Be NICE!
The OVMS "Be Nice" student leadership team has been selected! Congrats to those students who have been selected to make a difference.
Be Nice is an organization that raises awareness about student mental health. The OVMS students that are on the leadership team have taken an oath to learn about mental health and to spread awareness to the whole student body and the OV community.
Be NICE stands for Notice, Invite, Challenge and Empower.
The OVMS Be Nice Team challenges all students and staff to
Notice the signs and symptoms of mental illness
Invite themselves and others to be kind and speak up about mental health
Challenge themselves and others to reach out and get the help that they deserve
Empower one another with the knowledge that they can have an impact on how other people think, act and feel. Choose to be positive and kind!
To kick off the Be Nice initiative, the leadership team hosted a school-wide activity called "take what you need, give what you can." Students were asked to write down words of encouragement on sticky notes to be stuck on a "take what you need" poster.
They also wrote down things that they can do to brighten someone else's day to be stuck on a "give what you can" poster.
Stay tuned for more Be Nice content in the upcoming months :)

NEST
If you need help with homework, stay after school!
Locations for NEST will be announced each day during morning announcements.
Monday: 2:30-3:30
Tuesday: 2:30-3:30
Wednesday: 2:30-3:30
(Currently we are unable to provide transportation, but if it becomes available we will let you know.)
Phones and headphones
After the morning bell, you are not allowed to have your phone out or on until 2:20.
If your phone is taken away, it will go in phone jail until the end of the day, and you can have it back with a warning to keep it put away.
After your warning, every phone or earpod/headphone confiscation, hence thereafter, will result in your phone going away to phone prison.
This means, your phone will only be released to your parent. At that time, we will remind your parent that every time you take your phone out, they will need to come and get it.
Furthermore
Clarification regarding headphone-specific violations:
The only headphones that are acceptable at school are headphones connected to your Chromebook in class (assuming the teacher gave you permission to use them).
Headphones should not be out or on in the hallways. Headphones outside of instructional setting will also be confiscated and put in phone prison.
COVID Update 2022
To protect the health of our School Community and per the Emergency Order issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Reporting of Confirmed and Probable Cases of COVID-19 at Schools on October 9, 2020, Orchard View Schools will use this webpage to provide Public Notice to our School Community regarding School Associated Cases of COVID-19.
Within 24 hours of being notified of a School Associated Case by Muskegon County Health Department, this dashboard will be updated to include new and cumulative COVID-19 case counts. Individuals identified as Close Contacts of School Associated Cases will be notified separately and directly by Muskegon County Health Department.

Bus Schedules and Routes
CLICK HERE for 2021-2022 for middle school bus routes and schedules.
On "Late Start" days, the buses run approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes later than "Regular" days.
Virtual Students - Orchard View Personalized Learning Academy
If you are a virtual student and you missed orientation, make sure to contact Ms. Cantu as soon as possible.
Students that choose the virtual or hybrid options will NOT be able to switch back to face-to-face learning until the start of semester two (after holiday recess).
Rules and expectations for students learning virtually were shared last week, and students received their Chromebooks. If you were unaware of virtual orientation, the most likely reason is that you have not yet updated your student's demographic information in PowerSchool.
If you intended to learn virtually and you were not invited to orientation, please update your PowerSchool information as soon as possible and email Ms. Cantu.
There are new teachers supporting grade 6-12 virtual students:
Director of Innovation - Ms. Cathy Cantu
Need a Test or Quiz unlocked on Edmentum?
Math/Science- Ms. Natasha Brackett
Natasha.brackett@orchardview.org
ELA Support - Ms. Lori Dirkse
Social Studies Support - Mr. Tom Bruno
Parent Drop-off
If you are dropping your student off at school, please drop them off in the back of the school by the gym entrance. Please do not pull into the bus lane or drop off in front of the school.
Mr. Smith, Coach Gates, or Coach Brown will be on hand to supervise students that arrive to school early.
Students will be allowed to enter the building to hang out, play ball, or get breakfast starting at:
Regular School Days: 7:00 a.m.
Late Start School Days: 8:15 a.m.
The Line
The drop-off line is always busiest the five minutes before the bell rings. For those that respect the process (and the line), it is always frustrating to watch the handful of parents that rudely bi-pass the line and pull in front of everyone. Please don't be this parent. Please be a good example for your kids.
Left-hand turns
Also, we recommend dropping any high school students off first as turning left onto Sheridan ruins the day of everyone behind you because you are attempting to do the impossible.
Cardinal Cards and Rewards
Teachers will give you Cardinal Cards when you do something well. For example, a teacher may decide that every student that made it to class on time might get a Card, or maybe every student that passes a quiz might get a Card.
You might even be rewarded in the hallways for doing things like keeping your masks up and walking straight to class. When teachers see examples of our PRIDE expectations in action, they will address it by handing you a Cardinal Card.
Your teachers will hand you the white copy of the card. The yellow carbon copy will be kept by your teacher, and at some point that day, it will end up in your grade-level bin.
You can find the bin in the main hallway by the art room.
Virtual Students:
Students passing all three of their classes and on pace will automatically get a Cardinal Card for every day they are caught up. Ms. Nastase and Mr. Smith will do these drawings and deliver prizes.
