Holland Elementary School Message
May 8, 2020
Hello HES Families,
I've always believed that you can see the true character of a person when there are obstacles and challenges. And there are few moments in life like our current situation that are presenting both personal and professional difficulties for all of us. Yet, within the complexity of the moment, the teachers at HES astound me. This crisis has asked our teachers to face all types of challenges. Without exception, they have overcome these while demonstrating a level of commitment that should make everyone in this community deeply proud.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week across the nation, and I know that the staff was so thankful for all of the kind and thoughtful messages sent to them. I'm so impressed by each member of the HES staff and quite touched by the support from our HES families. I'm incredibly proud to be an educator and in this amazing school community. Thank you.

(Another) Video Message!
Here's another video to share with your children. The focus of the video is to encourage them to find activities during this time that develop their creativity and let them know that it's okay to be silly within their creativity. Hopefully all of you will look beyond my own silliness in my effort to connect with the children and make them smile. You can find the video HERE.
Non-Perishable Food Collection
HES student, James Cauley, and his little brother, Sam, are trying to collect non-perishable food items to donate to a local food pantry. With everything happening, the pantry has seen an increase in demand for food. James would like to drop food off every week.
He is accepting donations at his house (address in the directory) or he will even come to your house to pick up! Just message Dad at johncauley81@gmail.com if you want us to pick up items.

Student Wellness Activities
In order to help promote student wellness, the district is providing optional activities for all grade levels that can be completed individually or with families on Fridays. The activities address the physical health, mental health, and social connectedness of our students. Please click the following link for this week’s student wellness activities: https://www.smore.com/mhugk.
Growth and Development Information for Students
As part of the yearly health curriculum, 4th , 5th, and 6th grade students receive instruction on human growth and development. As part of our distance learning we would like to extend this opportunity to your homes during this time. The link to the letter below contains links to videos that we encourage you to view with your child, as he/she would have done with the Physical Education teacher and School Nurse in the classroom. We understand that these can be difficult conversations to have with your children, but they are of great importance to our children’s health. If you prefer that your child does not receive this instruction please disregard this letter. Additional resources are provided in the letter below.
Free and Reduced Lunch
To apply for free lunch during the COVID-19 school closure, you may:
- Download the Free and Reduced Lunch Application, fill it out, and email back to Karen Moody kmoody@crsd.org. DO NOT send your application via US mail to the district office as there is no mail being delivered to our buildings during this time.
- Apply online by visiting: https://www.compass.state.pa.us/compass.web/Public/CMPHome (website offers language options other than English)
You will only need to submit one application per household, even if your children attend more than one school in Council Rock School District. Eligibility determination is made using federal income eligibility guidelines and applicants will be informed of a decision within two business days of submission.
Throughout the duration of the COVID-19 school closure, Council Rock School District is offering a “grab and go” food service. If your family qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch, you will be given instructions as to how to access these meals when you are notified your child is eligible.
For questions, please email kmoody@crsd.org
