3DE Schools celebrates Market Day 2023

3DE, located at South Gwinnett High School is a full immersion “school within a school” that is designed to provide students with core academic courses, including Advanced Placement, delivered by dedicated 3DE teachers to ensure an engaging and interdisciplinary learning environment. Market Day is the single culminating event of the junior year entrepreneurial experience. At this event, students bring product and service ideas to a market. Market Day is intended to be an interactive, student-centric experience. This provides an important opportunity for students to receive real-time, authentic feedback from a public audience, which may include other classes, family members, business partners, Junior Achievement area(s), school administration, and others. This year, the following guests will be visiting South Gwinnett High School’s 3DE Market day:

  • FWCS Personnel (Fort Wayne Community Schools)

  • Chad Hissong - Snider High School Principal

  • David West - North Side High School Principal

  • Kara Froning - FWCS Assistant Superintendent - Secondary

  • Matt Schiebel - FWCS Assistant Superintendent - Secondary

  • 3DE Personnel

  • Nicole Winans - North Side High School Director of Leadership

  • Scott Snyder - FWCS Instructional Support/Case Experience

  • JANI Personnel

3DE strategically blends the core competencies of school districts, Junior Achievement (JA), and the broader business community to initiate transformation from the inside out. Students engage in a continuum of learning experiences structured around relevant case challenges, culminating events to corporations and colleges, and more! The result is a model that effectively utilizes our networks, resources, and expertise structured around real-world problems.

Meadowcreek HS parents on their field trip

Meadowcreek High School Parents go on a Field Trip

Meadowcreek High School’s Conversation Book Club holds an English class twice a week for parents of students that want to learn more about U.S. History in the hopes of preparing them for citizenship and immersion. The parents receive a book on a particular U.S. History topic, that they then discuss as a group. At the weekly class, parents received “Number the Stars” as part of their WWII lesson. In order to further support the lesson, and provide an opportunity for hands-on learning, it occurred to Parent Outreach Liaison, Martha Alanis, to take the parents on a field trip. This was a new experience for many of the participants, as the opportunity to attend a school field trip during their own childhoods was unavailable. Consequently, on March 21, the parents visited the Breman Museum to make first-hand observations and connections that had been discussed in class.

Mitchell Wall Community Project has a date

After years of dreaming, and several months of attending meetings, fundraising, and bringing the community together, the Norcross community finally has a date to update the Mitchell Wall. Norcross students, teachers and community members are joining forces to add some color and art to their community this Spring. The Mitchell Wall Community project, as it is known, was the concept of Norcross Elementary School Art teacher and muralist Bobbie Adamczyk, and mosaic artist, Jennifer Freeman. The mosaic came together through contributions from over 1,000 Norcross students, art educators, teachers, parents and volunteers back in 2018. Today, the wall is in need of an update and an expansion.

With the support of Tixie Fowler from Gardens4GrowingCommunity non-profit, Norcross Elementary students, and the entire Norcross community, the Mitchell Wall Project continues to grow and evolve. The transformation will take a plain, boring brown wall between Buford Highway and Brook Hollow Parkway and turn it into a unique work of art showcasing mosaics created by numerous community members of all ages. The project will also serve to spruce up and update the current design that composes the Mitchell Road mural located between Goodwick Way and Rails Way. With the approval and support of The Norcross Public Arts Commission (NPAC) and the Norcross City Council, the Mitchell Wall Project refresh and addition now has a date of April 15 - 16, 2023.

The Big Idaho Potato Tour visits Dacula Elementary School Career Day

The Big Idaho Potato Truck is on its 10th cross-country journey and made a special stop at Dacula Elementary School on March 22 for the school's career day. The Big Idaho Potato Truck began in 2012 as a one-year campaign to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission. It became apparent that its success would extend beyond a one-year occurrence, and it literally became a featured piece of pop-culture. The Big Idaho Potato Truck travels the country promoting the certified heart-healthy Idaho Potato and sharing its mission to help small charities in towns and cities with its A Big Helping program. Not to mention that people just want to have their picture taken with a 4-Ton Idaho potato! As part of its A Big Helping program, the Big Idaho Potato Truck donated $500 to Dacula Elementary School’s local school care team. Other community stakeholders that attended Dacula Elementary’s Career Day were Coca Cola, Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Gwinnett Fire, Gwinnett County SWAT, and Gwinnett Police Bomb Squad, among many others.
