2020/21 Elementary Principal Update

January 10, 2021

Dear Families,

Happy New Year! May this year bring you an abundance of joy, blessings, and good health.

On Monday, Jan. 18, our schools will be closed to commemorate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His vision of peace, unity, and equity transformed our history. As we observe his birthday, we hope you take time with your children to reflect on the causes for which he lived and died – his dream of an America where people will be judged on the content of their character, not on the color of their skin. During this month, we encourage our families and staff to talk to children about the acts of justice and kindness and remember the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by having students reflect on what they are willing to take a stand for and pledging to treat people fairly with kindness and compassion. What becomes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream is truly up to each and every one of us.

Reminder for Families: If a Cohort Closes at School

A student is considered a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19 if they were within 6 feet of that person for 15 minutes or more. We practice safety measures at the schools to ensure that students do not have opportunities to have such close contact. We will always make our decisions about closing a cohort with an abundance of caution. Families of students who are considered close contacts or possible close contacts are notified, and the cohort is isolated and switches to distance learning for the recommended period of time.

Anyone who is not considered a close contact will not be notified. Students in other cohorts, staff members, and even siblings are considered contacts of a contact and are not considered exposed or in any danger. This graphic may help clarify the difference.
