Great Full Week!
What a fantastic first FULL week of school. Our first 8 days have been smooth thanks to our families, staff and students! Students are into the routines and have finished a majority of our district and campus pre-assessments. This information will help our staff plan for upcoming lessons, as well as small group instruction tailored to student needs. Our Friday 2:00PM release days are specifically designed for teachers to collaborate together to review data, plan instruction, and prepare interventions and enrichment supports to continue to push our students to their highest potential.
Please read the remainder of this newsletter for information regarding our final week of PTO Shirt sales, Curriculum Nights for 2nd-6th and SAGE, Device Protection deadlines, Cafeteria Payment reminders and more.

**IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO PURCHASE THIS $25 DEVICE PROTECTION PLAN--- YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENTIRE COST OF ANY DAMAGES INCURRED TO A DVUSD DEVICE**
DVUSD is offering a Device Protection Plan for families of 4th-8th graders utilizing take-home devices. Note--- these fines will follow the student through high school, impacting ability to purchase parking permits and prom tickets.
The fee for Device Protection Plan is $25 per child/per school year.
Parents can purchase the protection plan online at https://url.dvusd.org/PaymentPortal.
**Note- the cost to replace a fully-damaged chromebook is $250 and will be charged to your child's account if damaged without the protection plan.
DISMISSAL REMINDERS - DON'T GET A TICKET!
IF YOU PICK UP OR DROP OFF IN THE MAIN LOOP (GREEN CURB BLUE CURB), PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO to help the procedure run more smoothly. Click here to watch the video.
Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders
- Please be patient and be kind to staff and other drivers as it takes a few weeks for all to learn our procedures. Remember out staff is out in 100+ degree weather keeping all our kids safe, and everyone's safety is more important than any individual's convenience
Make sure that all adults who will be picking up students at 3:30 have a yellow name placard with the student's FIRST & LAST NAME clearly written in marker bold and big so we can read them. Placards are available in the office. Take as many copies as you need (one for mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc......).
Our Pick-Up Loop opens at 3:30 pm. Waiting in line earlier causes back-up and congestion, as students are not dismissed before 3:30PM from this gate.
Please pull forward and follow all staff directions around the pick up loop. Do not stop short or get out of your car.
We do not have any supervision of students until 8:30 am so please do not drop off or leave any kids unattended before 8:30 am.
Do not cross any streets outside of the designated and manned crosswalks in the AM or PM. We have had some very close calls and pedestrians almost struck crossing 62nd or Quail illegally.
Note- Glendale PD has been making a presence to ticket any drivers who are speeding in a school zone (15 MPH limit) or parking illegally. Be sure you are reading the "no stopping, standing, parking" signs and adhering to them around the neighborhood.

COMPLETE RETURNING STUDENT CONTACT INFO
Also-- no students will be released after 3:15PM from the office. If you arrive to pick up your child early to avoid traffic lines you will have to wait until the Kinder release (3:20) or 1st-6th release (3:30) to get your child. This minimizes classroom disruptions and ensures students are completing their full day of learning.
Complete the RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION FORMS if your child is a returning DVUSD student.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be sure you have completed your student's required return to school and emergency forms online. This process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year. You should have received an email for each child to access the forms. You can also access your forms by clicking the link below. How do I get started? Use the snapcode link or visit https://registration.powerschool.com/family/gosnap.aspx?action=33393&culture=en Then enter your student’s snapcode provided in the email from PowerSchool Registration Support (subject line: DVUSD Returning student school forms). What’s a snapcode? By using the link in the email sent to you, you will automatically enter your child's snapcode. The snapcode is like a key to your child’s Returning Student Registration for the upcoming school year. You should receive a unique snapcode or snapcode link for each child. Should I create an account? - If you’ve never completed an online Returning Student Registration, you should create an account using your email address (this is not your PowerSchool parent account). This allows you to securely save your work and come back at a later time if necessary. -If you created an account previously, and do not remember your password, click "Forgot Password", and you will receive a password recovery email. - If you already have an account, you can sign in and complete the form. (You should use the same account to complete forms for multiple children.) What if I have more than one student in the district? Do I need to do this for each child? Yes, because you’ll need to provide information that is specific for each child. We recommend that you submit one Returning Student Registration and then start another – this will allow you to “snap over” shared family information, which will save you time. Help! I’m having technical difficulties. -For technical support, visit our PowerSchool Community help center or select “Help” from any form page. -If you are still having difficulty, please contact your school's Registrar.
Food and Nutrition
For the 22-23 school year, we will once again be charging for school meals, to apply for a free or reduced meal application visit https://secure.ezmealapp.com or stop by Legend Springs office for a paper application (though the online process is much quicker). See the complete information from DVUSD Food & Nutrition below.
DVUSD has a birthday bucket order form that will be the only method of birthday treats for 22-23. You can fill out an application for a birthday bucket and work with our Cafeteria Manger Mr. Joshua Singleton to arrange these birthday treats. The Birthday Bucket application is on the Food & Nutrition homepage.
In order to keep meal account balances topped off, you can drop off cash or check in the office (lunch mailbox), or use E-Z school pay which is free through September 7th. EZ School pay also has an app available to download and track your balance.

Campus Safety at DVUSD
DVUSD Parents & Guardians,
As we welcome students back to school, we want to share with you our efforts to keep our campuses safe for our students, staff, and visitors. All of our campuses operate under individualized Emergency Response Plans (ERP). The ERPs give guidance to our campus administrators for emergency scenarios. All of our campus administrators received enhanced training on the ERPs this summer which included tabletop scenarios. The ERPs also lay out the frequency of our evacuation (fire drill), lockdown and lockout drills. Drills may occur at any time during the school day, including instructional and non-instructional times such as lunch, recess or before school and after school drop off. Increased communication regarding drills will occur. Our District Office will also initiate unannounced drills during the school year at various school sites.
Furthermore, a number of DVUSD staff have completed the ALICE “train the trainer” course and will bring this nationally-recognized “sudden violent confrontation” training to our school sites throughout the year. Other efforts include continuing to “harden” our physical sites, monitoring student communication on District servers, placing wellness counselors or social workers on many of our campuses, and ensuring that sworn police officers are assigned full-time to our high schools and middle schools.
School safety is a shared responsibility between our schools and community. Please emphasize to your student that if they hear or see anything (online or in person) that makes them feel even the slightest bit uncomfortable in regards to school safety, they should report it immediately. We are hopeful that, together, we can make this our best year ever.
Kind Regards,
Scott Warner

BEFORE + AFTER CARE NEED HELP!
The DVUSD Community Education Department is hiring! Full and part time positions are available in our before and after programs as well as preschools.
Our Before & After Care program is required to follow DES guidelines for student-to-staff ratios. If we do not have enough employees, we cannot accept more students, impacting AM/PM care options for families.
If you are interested in working part-time (either AM, PM or BOTH), please contact Dina.Sands@dvusd.org or go to careers.dvusd.org to apply.
REMINDER - DVUSD BLACKBOARD COMMUNICATION - CHECK YOUR SPAM!
Please click www.dvusd.org/notify for additional information.
Deer Valley Unified School District has begun using a new parent notification system.
The District and our schools have sent messages to parents during the past couple weeks.
All parents should have received an email on Monday July 26 from Deer Valley Unified School District at info@dvusd.org.
If you didn’t receive the email, please check your email’s Spam and/or Junk folders.
We understand that some of the emails from DVUSD maybe going into junk or spam folders, especially for gmail users. To help fix this problem, move the email from your junk or spam folder into your in box. Also, add the reply to email address from the DVUSD email to your email system’s address book. In addition, add info@dvusd.org and noreply@dvusd.org to your email system’s address book.
DVUSD is continuing to fine-tune this system and will likely run future tests to ensure all parents are receiving important messages from schools and the district.
Please note: If you unsubscribe from an email from either a school or the district, you are unsubscribing from all of the future emails coming from your child’s school and the district.
Thank you for your patience as we implement this new system, which will be more efficient in getting important messages to our parents.
