General News!
Week of February 16th-19th:
We hope you all had an enjoyable long weekend, but are beginning to realize that we are quickly approaching the end of this school year. We will be starting the process for high school registration in the next few weeks. It is important that you and your student take some time and discuss the possibilities of courses they would like to take , so that the decisions they need to make will be well thought out, and provide a solid beginning for their next 4 years.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Progress Reports Home-February 17th

Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
This week in language arts we will be wrapping up the reading portion of our novel, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
The students will begin to organize the facts that they have been gathering during their research of the concentration camps of WWII. After creating an outline, they will begin writing rough drafts of an expository paper to explain their findings.
In grammar we will continue our practice with the different verbals ; gerunds, participles, and infinitives. These should be getting easier for them to identify...if not they can find some additional practice on Quia at: https://www.quia.com/cb/123479.html
Our new set of root words are for "Touching and Holding", It includes: tact, tang (touch, feel), tag and tig (touch), ten, tin, tain (hold). The StudyStack link will be available for them in their Google classroom.
TweenTribune is in week 6, February 15th through the 21st by noon. Please ask your students to show you their progress with these. Many of them are seeing improvements in their scores and should be gradually increasing their lexile levels. For those who are still not doing these, it is definitely affecting their overall average...get on it!
Math- Mrs. Holloway
This Week in Mathematics:
We have begun Unit 6-Linear Models and Tables. In this unit we will continue to model, construct and interpret functions in different representations. We will also interpret scatter plots and write equations for lines of best fit within the scatter plot. The third concept we will be investigating is interpreting bivariate data from two-way tables and constructing two-way tables from data given. Students did not have homework tonight, but they will have homework Tuesday-Thursday nights. I will put the assignment on my website, www.tinyurl.com/hollowaymath8 . Looking forward to a busy next few weeks. Students can be practicing integers, identifying lines, and graphing lines using the website www.thatquiz.org . Students know what to click on to get to the practice. If you have any questions, please feel free to email.
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
This week folks we are still up to our hip replacements in The Great Depression and hopefully by the end of the week we will just be up to our knee replacements. Our next destination will be up to our four-legged walkers in Pearl Harbor and World War II.
