Lynnville-Sully Schools - August 31, 2020
Message from Shane Ehresman, Superintendent
When would our school district need to switch to 100% online or remote learning?
A school district may request 100% online or remote leaning for an entire district for up to 14 days to the Iowa Department of Education and Public Health. Only the Departments of Education and Public Health can make the determination and provide temporary authorization to move to 100% online or remote learning.
Criteria Considerations: Community/county transmission rate needs to be between 15% to 20%, on average, over the last 14 days and the school district must have a student absenteeism rate among students being educated in person of 10% or more. The absenteeism rate should include all students who are absent due to COVID-19-related reasons (i.e. illness, quarantine, isolation). The formula for calculating the percent positivity 14-day average is the sum total of individual positive sases (14 day) divided by the sum total of total individuals tested (14 day). The positivity rate for each county located at https://coronavirus.iowa.gov/pages/percent-school-district-positive-analysis
As of Monday, August 31, 2020, the positivity rate for Jasper County is 7.8%.

Parent/Community Guide to Handling a Concern
The school district recognizes situations may arise in the operation of the school that are of concern or unclear to families or to the public. The school district strongly believes that concerns are best dealt with using open lines of communication with school staff directly involved in the decision or situation.
We discourage posting concerns on social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc...) that need a school response. Why? The social media post may delay addressing a specific concern in a timely manner and allow others to comment who may not fully understand the details of a situation. Instead of a social media post, please give someone at the school a call, send an email or visit the school.
