Kindness Collective
Our thanks to everyone who supported the recent Kindness Collective drive - the results were outstanding, and made a huge difference to their work in the wake of the recent cyclone-related displacements. The team were blown away by the response!
One of the first tasks when our Student Council is elected will be to discuss ideas for possible future charitable projects - no doubt further support for families affected by the cyclone will be a topic for this discussion.
Y5 Camp
I'd like to congratulate Year 5 students, staff and parent helpers for a fantastic experience at Camp last week. Seeing the children building their sense of camaraderie and confidence in such amazing surroundings is always a highlight, and this year was certainly no exception. I was impressed as always by the way in which the children exemplified our Touchstones by rising to the many challenges - supporting one another every step of the way!
Zones Swimming
We also experienced great success this week at Zones Swimming, with the team taking 2nd Place overall (full results below). This is an outstanding achievement, and one they should all be very proud of. Our thanks to Karen Moore, our Sports Coordinator, for her organisation, and to the Parent Helpers who gave up their time.
A note that we did struggle to get enough helpers for this event, however, and to advise that there has been recent discussion in the Sports Cluster about schools having to withdraw in future if they don't find enough parent helpers to attend.
We wouldn't ever want to be in this situation, so in the event your child is selected for future teams, please volunteer if you can possibly find a way to make this work - in everyone's busy schedules, it's proving harder than ever (for all schools) to recruit the required numbers of volunteers for these sporting opportunities - they're always memorable and enjoyable events to be a part of if you have enough flexibility in your schedule to help out where you can!
PTA Picnic
Sadly, weather once again got in the way of plans for the PTA Picnic, which the team tried hard to facilitate, but I would like to thank them all the same, and we look forward to future community events proceeding in the near future.
Collective Agreement Negotiations
Finally, a note to make you aware that NZ Teachers (and Principals) have recently voted on employment agreements and pay offers from the government. As everyone feels the economic squeeze and NZ assesses significant infrastructure and rebuild investment needs, it's no less essential that we continue to invest in our education infrastructure also, which is our people.
Now perhaps more than ever, recruitment and retention of high quality teachers (and school leaders) is vital for our communities, so we will keep you up to date on any developments in the industrial space, and appreciate any support you can give for what we hope will be a fair and equitable deal for teaching staff and school leaders around the country.
