Cell phones and Dress Code pg. 67 and 68 Student Code of Conduct

As we are entering into the Spring and STAAR testing is fast approaching, we are asking for your help in these two areas.

  • Cell phones can be a huge distraction for our students. We follow the Student Code of Conduct regarding cell phones which can be found on pages 67 and 68 of the Code of Conduct. At Hofius, we ask that cell phone remained turned off during class time. Students may use their phones when granted permission by the teacher for instructional purposes only. Students may not take pictures of other students or participate in the making of social media videos such as Tik Tok, Snap Chat, etc. as this causes a distraction. If the student is inappropriately using a cell phone or has their cell phone out in class without permission, the teacher may take the cell phone up and turn it in to the grade level Assistant Principal for the student to retrieve at the end of the day. If this happens more than once, the Assistant Principal will notify the parent to pick up the phone and the student will receive a discipline referral.
  • Dress Code (pg 67) Please review this with your student. We will be doing dress code checks during 1st period each day. Students out of compliance will be sent to the grade level office to correct the problem. If the problem can not be corrected, a parent may be called to bring other clothes. After the first warning, students will be assigned lunch detention. Our biggest infractions are hoodies being worn in the building, shorts that are too short for school (use the fingertip rule as a good guide- shorts should be long enough and shorter than the students fingertips when arms are placed down by their side), and tank tops (midriff must be covered at all times, straps must be three fingers wide), pants must not be excessively baggy.

Tips for monitoring your child's cell phone usage: go to settings, click on Screen Time, turn on screen time and monitor your child's screen time. Helpful Resources

Again, we appreciate your assistance and talking with your child about cell phones and dress code as we finish out the last 8 weeks of school.

Course Selection

Dear Parents, We have successfully completed the course selection process for next year! The counselors have completed their classroom visits. They have had time to meet with students, answer questions, and check student's selections for next year. It's now time for you to help your student to finalize these selections. Pay close attention to the level of your child's courses. We have created a short video that walks you through how to view the classes your child is signed up for. In order to view next year's classes, parents must be logged into the STUDENT SKYWARD account. If your child would like to make any changes to their requests for next year, they can do so by completing the add/drop form that is linked in this smore. The deadline to make changes to the 2022-2023 school year is Friday, May 6, 2022. https://www.smore.com/vhem8

Library Book Fair

Our library Book Fair is April 4-8! The fair will be open daily from 8:35-4:25, and students can shop before or after school, during lunch, or during class with permission from their teacher. Cash, cards, eWallet accounts, or checks made out to Hofius Intermediate will be accepted. Families, please consider creating an eWallet for your Hawk so you don’t have to send them to school with money. To create an account, please visit bit.ly/hofiusewallet22.

Do you want to show our amazing Hofius teachers some love? Please consider donating to their eWallets so that they can build their classroom libraries: bit.ly/hofiusteacherewallet22. Don't see your Hawk's teachers on this list? Check back soon to see if their eWallet has been added, or you may donate to the Library eWallet, and the funds will be used to purchase books and prizes for our library contests and activities.

In addition to our physical fair from April 4-8, families can also shop the Hofius Book Fair Online April 4-17. All orders ship home, and book-only orders over $25 ship free. Thank you for supporting our Library Book Fair!
