WE-Side Unified Earns Historic Honors
All Westside schools have been named National Banner Unified Champion Schools for 2022. This honor, recognizing an organization’s commitment to inclusion by achieving ten set standards of excellence developed by leaders in education and Special Olympics, including ongoing efforts to connect students with and without intellectual disabilities. We are the first muti-school District to receive this honor in the state (and perhaps the Nation!)
We will celebrate this incredible accomplishment with our entire community at the 2022 Homecoming Pep Rally ceremony, on Friday, October 7 at Westside High School. We will begin at approximately 2:30 at Phelps Field. We hope you can join us!
Partnership With Flagship Commons
Thank you to ALL District 66 businesses who partner with our schools to create new opportunities for our students and staff!
Westside Alum Wins Emmy
"Back in 1991-1992, Mac and I were a part of Westside’s Broadcast Journalism program and created a new set for our show called “Westside Up Front” ," said Ms. Stover. "Glad Mac stuck with it! So fun to see all the great things our alumni are doing and achieving!!"
Congratulations, Mac!

Student Achievement and Well-Being
Davies, Pike and Steele are part of less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors named Semifinalists. They can now apply to become Finalists, offering their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The Westside Board of Education and district leaders honored Davies, Pike and Steele at their September 19 meeting.
“These outstanding students are evidence of the academic excellence we nurture at Westside High School, and we are thrilled to celebrate their achievements,” said Dr. Jay Dostal, Principal of Westside High School. “We also intend to grow this number moving forward, giving our highest achieving students the support and opportunities they need not only to earn honors like this, but to find success at every level and throughout their lives.”
Community, Collaboration, and Partnerships
One of those businesses, QLI Omaha, sent the following:
"I also want to share with you that I was so impressed with so many of the students that I was able to meet. They were each able to effectively engage with great eye contact, appropriate sharing of information, and most of them came up with many more questions of their own. I was even asked questions I had not heard yet, so I was able to really learn something from them as well. I look forward to more of these sessions!"
Westside High staff also organized a Career Cafe with Bakers, and are planning an additional Career Fair for Westside High School on October 20.
If you would like to include your business or organization as part of our job fair, please email District Coordinator of Secondary Counseling Rick Painter at painter.richard@westside66.net!

Behind The Calendar - OCTOBER
Our featured photo for October 2022 was taken by Zoe Gillespie for Westside Journalism, and showcases 4-year varsity starter Madilyn Siebler setting up for a kill attempt against Lincoln Southwest in the Class A Volleyball State Quarterfinals. The Warriors won that game, but ended their season in a heartbreaking loss, five sets, to Millard West in semifinal match at state. It was Warrior Volleyball's best season since 1985. The other three girls in this photo, Destiny Ndam-Simpson, Daniela Gologan and Jocelyn Healy, are on this year's team and hoping to make history at the 2022 State Tournament, as is their Coach Corrine Bowers.
"Their mission is to dream crazier and the goal is to win a State Championship, build their legacy at Westside and do it for their community!" said Bowers. "Hanging up a Volleyball banner in our gym would really put volleyball on the map at Westside and this team would forever be remembered as the best volleyball team in history."
We hope to have a packed house Tuesday, October 4 for Senior Night! The Westside Warriors will take on Gretna at Westside High School at 6:30. Districts are October 24-25!
