Diffley Road School Area Safety Improvements
Due to the contractor construction calendar, there will be a closure of Diffley Road starting Monday, June 7. Detour Maps
We know that the earlier the construction starts, the better our chances will be of having construction near completion before students return to school on September 1.
Construction Began May 17!
This Week
- The Diffley Road closure from Lexington Avenue to Trenton Road began on Monday, June 7. Please review the detour and access maps on the project website.
- Continued grading the new access road between Northview Elementary School and Dakota Hills Middle School.
- Began reclaiming (grinding up of the existing asphalt pavement) work on Diffley Road.
- Began reclaiming Dakota Hills Middle School Parking lot.
- Private utility relocations continued on Daniel Drive and Braddock Trail. There are no planned disruptions to service at this time.
- Began watermain work.
- Began lighting removals.
Next Week
- Grading work for the new access road between Northview Elementary School and Dakota Hills Middle School will continue.
- Reclaiming work on Diffley Road will continue.
- Concrete and curb and gutter removals will take place.
- Private utility relocations continued on Daniel Drive and Braddock Trail. There are no planned disruptions to service at this time.
- Watermain work will continue.
- Storm sewer work will begin.
- Lighting removals will continue.
Pedestrian and Bicycle Access
During construction, access to the pedestrian and bicycle routes will be provided via the route shown on the Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Map on the project website. These designated pedestrian access routes will be marked with signage and traffic control devices. Please stay within the designated pedestrian access routes. These routes may vary slightly during construction, specifically at Daniel Drive, Braddock Trail, and the Diffley Marketplace Entrance.
Next Week Access Changes:
- Pedestrian access at Daniel Drive will shift to allow watermain and storm sewer work to continue. This will include periods of time where east-west pedestrian access will be routed to the north side of the Daniel Drive intersection. Please be on the lookout for pedestrian detour signage identifying the pedestrian access route.
- The existing trail on the north side of the Braddock Trail intersection may be momentarily impacted to complete utility work. A temporary pedestrian route will be provided near the trail, and will be marked by detour signage and other traffic control devices. Pedestrian access on Braddock Trail will be maintained.

Free Summer Meals
All District 196 families are encouraged to apply annually for the Educational Benefits Program (formerly known as the Free and Reduced-Price Meals Program) for the upcoming school year. The annual application should be submitted even though breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students in 2021-22 at no charge through special funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. 2021-2022 Applications will be available July 19, 2021.
Educational Benefits Program directly supports your child's school with compensatory aid, which is determined by how many families apply. This critical funding provides additional teachers, additional instructional materials, math and reading support, and additional paraprofessionals and social workers.
Feel free to forward this email to anyone who you feel would benefit knowing this information.
