Notes from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Today, we successfully concluded our fall semester! After honoring Dr. King with the holiday Monday, teachers will utilize a workday Tuesday to provide some closure (office hours are 8am-3pm Tuesday), and we are off and running with Spring 2020 on Wednesday, January 22! Report cards go out the following Tuesday, January 28.
Thanks to a HUGE crowd for joining us Monday night in the gym for our WMS ABC Spring Sports Meeting. I remind all prospective spring athletes that registration remains open through January 27. Please see the booster club homepage for more information: wmsabc.com.
Congratulations to the flowing students for earning a spot on the South Central District Honors Band: Emma Bach, Prathmesh Vijayakumar, Drew Schilling, Evan Lanoue, and Evan Levitas. These students make up part of the Top 100 middle school band students in the entire greater Charlotte area! Look at our talented Wildcats go!
Basketball season inches closer to tourney time with our 8th Grade Night versus Cuthbertson on Thursday, January 23. Please join us for the final regular season home game, during which we will recognize our 8th grade players and cheerleaders.
During the final week in January, Weddington Middle School is hosting the Union County Public Schools Basketball Tournament. An exciting opportunity to showcase our school, it will bring significantly more traffic to our campus most of that week. We host four games each day on Monday (1/27), Tuesday (1/28), and Thursday (1/29), all of which will begin at 4:30pm. We are using our main entry off Deal Road AND the available parking at Weddington Elementary School off Twelve Mile Creek to accommodate spectator vehicles. Please expect and plan for additional traffic around our campus during each of these days. Championship games take place Friday (1/31) at Weddington High School.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Coming up next week:

Career Day 2020 will be Friday April 24th from 8:30am-11:00am. If you know anyone interested in sharing their career with our middle school students, please share the sign-up link below. The Career Day Information for Presenters link has a video that outlines answers to frequently asked questions by our presenters. If you know anyone who is interested that doesn’t live in the area, we are also able to setup video conferencing. Mr. Vreeland’s son presented for us last year from California, and it was a great experience. We are also able to accommodate a speaker if they are only available for one or two sessions, we just need to know up front.
Please let us know if you have any questions, and thanks for your help in recruiting for career day 2020!

Absence/Early Dismissal
Parents, if your child will be leaving school early, please send a note to the homeroom teacher with the dismissal time. Students who leave before or arrive after 12:15 pm will be marked absent for the day. There are no dismissals allowed after 3:15 pm. If you send a note for your student to be in the office at 3:00 pm and you arrive after the 3:15 pm deadline, if your student is not in the office waiting for you the office staff will not call your student out of class. Also, all early dismissal and late arrivals from medical appointments must have a note from the doctor in order to be excused.
When students are absent it is not necessary to call the school. Be sure to send a note to the homeroom teacher stating why the student was not in school. UCPS will notify you through Connect-Ed if your student was
absent.
